Jarrett: I'll be back in 2008, and so will UPS ![]() Dale Jarrett is puzzled by reports that he could retire at the end of the season. Not only does he plan to continue racing for Michael Waltrip Racing next season, but he also says that sponsor UPS is solidly on board with the No. 44 team. Jarrett's new Toyota team has struggled this season, with the driver using past champions provisionals to make several races and still missing the field for seven NASCAR Nextel Cup races. The team remains well outside the top 35 in points and a locked-in position in the race each week. Jarrett: I'll be back in 2008, and so will UPS

Re: Jarrett: I'll be back in 2008, and so will UPS Jarrett saying he will be "back" in 2008 is pretty generous in itself. You have to be there to come back. Maybe UPS is making him run 2008 for what they sank into his team in 2007 with little return on it this year.

Re: Jarrett: I'll be back in 2008, and so will UPS Makes me want to questions UPS business practice then. Maybe I should look into our shipping contract if they think going with someone who can't make the race to sponsor is good business.

Re: Jarrett: I'll be back in 2008, and so will UPS I don't think Jarrett is the only member of a new team to ever struggle with making a race. It happens to all new teams. UPS could have stayed with Yates but went with Jarrett. Kinda looks to me like maybe they had faith in him. And so do I. Didn't really expect none of them to do to good til closer to the end of the season or next year.

| Re: Jarrett: I'll be back in 2008, and so will UPS I think a business who's practice allows them to take some chances is better than a business not willin to take a chance. If you notice they are gettin exposure, maybe not in blazin glory fashion, but how they are willin to stick by a veteran driver who's startin in a new team/brand. That draws attention no matter how well things go. Shows loyalty, and integrity somethin UPS needs big time.

That being said, in today's sports/business world (I know you just love THAT term, right?) loyalty has little to do with things. It's "What have you done for me today?" Look at stick & ball, as well as major league racing. How many successful coaches or crew chiefs have one or two bad seasons and <poof!>. The sponsors, financial backers and booster organizations start screaming for blood. Doug Reichert/Greg Biffle and Pat Tryson/Biffle were winning combinations, all of whom had tenure with Roush. However, a bad season and Reichert is fired and is off to Red Bull. Tryson and Biff don't win, right out of the gate and now Pat is back with Kurt. (Both of whom have a score to settle, or so Kurt alludes to). Loyalty is for guys like you and I, not for big business. Folks like you and I have scruples; big business has... well, big business.
