Sad News Regarding Former NBS Driver Elder: Christian Elder, 38, of Cornelius, NC passed away on Sunday, August 12, 2007, at his residence. Born December 6, 1968, in Minneapolis, MN, he was a son of John Stuart and Sherry Hansen Elder, of Bloomington, MN. Mr. Elder was a Project Manager for Elder-Jones, Inc. He was a race car driver in the NASCAR Goody's Dash Series, winning at Daytona and Lowes Motor Speedway. In addition to his parents, Mr. Elder is survived by a sister, Elizabeth Elder, of St. Louis Park, MN; brother, Justin Elder and wife, Sara, and their son, Nolan; maternal grandmother, Phyllis Hansen, of Bloomington, MN; and his two best buddies, his dogs, Yukon and Henry. A service will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, August 20, at Normandale Hylands United Methodist Church, 9922 Normandale Boulevard South, Bloomington, MN, with visitation one hour prior. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lance Armstrong Foundation, National Mail Processing Center, P.O. Box 6003, Albert Lea, MN 56007-6603. (Leave memories, thoughts through the guestbook at Charlotte.com) Elder had 24 Busch Series starts spanning the 2001 and 2002 seasons driving for Akins Motorsports. Makes ya think dont it? Just how fragile we really are. 20 years ago I was 10 feet tall and bullet proof. When a friend died right next to me one night I finally came to realize that we are not invincible. What a wake up call eh? If I could ever ask the man up topside one question I think it would be "Who ya got on yer race team?" Or "Who's in the band?"

Re: Christian Elder Passed Away

If you go to Wikipedia.com and type in "Christian Elder" you will see in the little box to the top right that where it says "Cause of death" it says "unknown" .

On another forum someone said that they had read where Christian died in his sleep ,yet I have searched and searched for info on how he died and come up with nothing .

What gets me is that they have yet to mention anything about his passing on any Nascar shows ...ie Nascar Now, Trackside,Busch or Cup practice or qualifying .However they are all about talking about John Blewett III. Yes it is sad that a racer lost his life ,but unlike Christian I don't recall ever hearing about John in Nascar, yet they talked about him a lot and never said a thing about Christian.I even went as far as to drop a message to The Speed Channel to say that I couldn't believe that nothing had been said about Christian on any of the Nascar program's.

Christian did not have cancer. Lance Armstrong was his idol. His cause of death is unknown at this time.

Re: Christian Elder Passed Away

I was wondering if anyone has learned anymore about what happened to Christian Elder. I was so sad to hear about it and I find it extremely strange that I am unable to find out anything and how hush hush this has been kept. I can't figure out why it has been swept under the rug...

Re: Christian Elder Passed Away

My name is Beth and I am Christian Elder's sister. I was going through some web sites with obits on Christian and came accross this posting. For the record, Christian's cause of death has not been determined yet. Results from the autopsy and pathology/toxicology takes about 3 months. This is standard for a death that does not have foul play involved.

For all of you unregistered posters, you clearly are getting your information from unreliable sources. Christian was a very healthy man and his death was completely unexpected and a shock to all of us who knew and loved him. We, his family are not keeping anything "hush-hush"--we simply do not have a cause of death from the county medical. At this time, his death certificate lists cause of death "pending autopsy results".

Thank you to those of you who knew Christian or followed his racing career for your kind words. Christian was a wonderful man and we, his family, are devistated by his death.

Beth
