Earnhardt could pick No.81?

Hendrick officials did not say what number Earnhardt will have next year. He used No. 81 in the Busch series. A move to that number could be good news for one segment of Earnhardt's fan base: those with a No. 8 tattoo. They'd only need to have a 1 added instead of needing laser surgery to remove the whole thing. -- The Virginian-Pilot

I'm not at all against tattoo's but for the most part they are permanent and you really need to think about them before you put something on your body that may not be in your heart forever.

Why on earth should HMS give two hoots about what any of us ink on our bodies ??? What'll happen when Teresa sells DEI and Jr buys it and goes back to the number 8 ????

I agree its probably not the best tattoo choice, but then again these are hardcore fans who dont care and will get it erased, Ive got a tattoo but never had one removed but heard it hurts like hell..

Does anybody drive the 08? There's a 7 and and 07, why not an 08 if its not already taken?

As much as I love the drivers in the 07 and the 17... there's no way I'd have either number tattooed on me. What happens if a driver I despise ends up driving it in a few years? That's as crazy as tattooing your significant other's name on you.

Most people are well aware of what can happen in the future, but obviously it doesn't stop any of them from making stupid choices when it comes to tattoo's.

my you're up early today .. couldn't sleep?

my dad got a couple tatoos while he was a young impressionable soldier in the 30's. one on each arm. 40 years later you could hardly tell what they were, looked more like large black smudges. I've seen the same on other older folks. I know tatooing technology has improved, but nobody has yet figured out how to control the human body's growth.

unfortunately most who get tatoos today do it 'cause it's a fad .. they fail to think what it'll look like when they're older or that they may not care for the object of their fad 20 years down the road. and like bikini's some people just don't look good in tatoos (but they wear'em anyway.)

I think the #08 is too close to the #8. He needs to get away from that number as far as possible to get away from his past with TEI.
The 81 sounds ok, I guess, because it's on the other end of the numbers, if that makes sense to ya.

Re: Earnhardt could pick No.81?

I don't know what the big deal is............. he signed to drive the 5 car, the number 8 is held by DEI, not jr. just drive the 5 and be done!

and I wish nascar would do away with the 0? (01,02,03,04,05,06,07,08,09) numbers 01 and 1 are the same number to me.

I was already pairing Jr. with the 5 anyway... so it doesn't bother me.

I don't want them to do away with the 07... c'mon... its the PERFECT number for a car that has Jack Daniel's for a sponsor.

Re: Earnhardt could pick No.81?

Funny how things happen...
My friend I work with just stopped by to talk. He's a fanatical Dale Jr. fan!
His Chevy truck is red. He has a #8 license tag like my #3 tag. His house is decorated with red #8 stuff. He wears #8 t-shirts and hats to work almost every day.
But he doesn't have a computer so he comes by here to see what's going on.

I told him Jr's not gonna get the #8 next year. His reaction was:
"oh well, I knew that would happen anyway. To be honest about it, I don't care if he drives the #5 car, I don't care what number car he drives.
It doesn't matter to me what number he has, I'm still gonna support him."

Pretty well said, my friend.

Re: Earnhardt could pick No.81?

07 is fine as long as there is not another car running 7.

I think if your number is 7 you should have the option to run the 7 or 07.

Re: Earnhardt could pick No.81?

It seems silly to make 0's in front of a number. Is there some reason they don't go to 3 digit numbers? It can't cost that much to paint 3 numbers
