The 81 sounds ok, I guess, because it's on the other end of the numbers, if that makes sense to ya.
I love how you call it TEI. Subtle, but accurate!

Fine they can get rid of all the 0's EXCEPT the 07!

Oh, and Nemecheck is driving the #08 Dodge this weekend, so I found that out.

I agree.

but it's been the practice in auto racing for many, many years. in fact, if you remember, they also used to put small letters after a number (still do in the modified ranks). in the Watkins Glen race, Boris and Carpentier had a "1" in front of their number .. on paper, so the 3 digit number is alive and well (on paper) in NASCAR. part of the problem is the amount of real estate the numbers occupy. NASCAR mandates the location of contingency decals (on the fender in front of the door number) and the number. the contingency decals are already encroaching into the "number" area on the door leaving little room for a third number. but since NASCAR controls the numbers, they have sole authority on which numbers are available and which aren't.

besides, if they took all the leading "0"s away, what would Reutimann have on the side of his car? a decimal point?

Maybe they could do like horse racing. When you have horses entered by the same owner they enter them a 1 & 1A for example. That way HMS could have 24, 24A, 24B, 24C,. That could be funny. JG & JJ could fight over who was A & who is B.

How about this? Dale Jr. could have 03 or 08? I don't think anyone has those.
