NASCAR Team Sponsors .. The Good, The Bad & The Ugly

the thought occurred to me while munching on a strangely seasoned pork chop last night (a story for another time) that there've been many comments about drivers (many, many, many ..... many) and owners (only a few thousand less than the drivers) and even good places to park at the track. seldom have we expressed our feelings about those who make it all happen: the team sponsors. well, here's your chance.

but first some ground rules:
  1. first and foremost, no named driver comments allowed! this thread will not be allowed to venture into driver bashing. if you mention a driver's name, the moderators will edit it out. test if you want, but be prepared to suffer the embarrassment of having your post edited. I'm sure our members are creative enough to be able to identify the driver without mentioning his/her name.
  2. comments should be about the sponsor, their products, their history with NASCAR, the bucks they spend, the car's paint job, appropriateness to be displayed on a car, or any other comment you want to make about the sponsor and/or their product(s).
  3. comments should focus on the race teams, not track sponsors, race sponsors, nor NASCAR's sponsors. however, it seems only fair to allow some "discussion" of the "buying of venues" by various sponsors as in "Reliant Arena", "SBC Center", "Fed-Ex Field", "Bank of America Stadium", etc.
there you have it. I look forward to reading your posts.

who's "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly" sponsors?

The Little Blue Pill - This one was just to easy to pass up.

(The pharmaceutical name for this product won't show on this forum for some reason?)

Re: NASCAR Team Sponsors .. The Good, The Bad & The Ugly

The Good.

Goodyear - series sponsor, been around for a long time and supplies the rubber for all types of tracks. There have been many complaints but overall I give them a thumbs up.

Interstate Batteries - been around a while. Didn't take NASCAR to court when EXIDE came in and still going strong.

The Bad - NEXTEL. Was not too fond of them as a series sponsor at the outset and when the AT&T battle started turned me off completely. I am still pulling for AT&T. I believe that a National race series should be open to any who want to come to the table and pay the bucks to race.

The Ugly - None I can think of, but my memory is short.

Re: NASCAR Team Sponsors .. The Good, The Bad & The Ugly

I'd have to go with TEXACO

I also have a funny ,kind of embarrassing one ...Ramses Condom's and a woman drove this particular car. I'm sorry I just never drive a car with a sponsor like that .

One driver is sponsored by Hefty Trash Bag's .They also had a small sponsor with "Race Girl" The Hefty sponsor was in bold letters along the side then the Race Girl followed. Some were offended by The Hefty Race Girl "

Oh and what about the ****** car I heard alot of people say they'd never wear ****** gear .

The Whiskey's:

Jack Daniel's Car! The design scheme is fantastic, I love the big jack splashed across the hood. Definitely very striking in black & white.

The Crown Royal scheme is pretty good to, but it doesn't stand out nearly as much. The Jim Beam... well, I like the white on black for the black label better than the traditional... but it looks too much like Jack, so I'd rather not see it at all.

Beers:

Though I hate Budweiser, I like the whole Bud/8 design. Its bold and red, and not hard to find on the track.

Miller Lite: Color/design scheme good, beer meh. The Gold scheme they had for the All Star Challenge was pretty cool... but it should have had Miller High Life on it instead of Miller Lite. I'd love to see the bring back the High Life scheme again... put the red girl in the moon on the hood.

Home Improvement centers:

Home Depot vs Lowe's: The big orange Home Depot car is easier to spot on the track... even though a flash of orange could be mistaken for the Cingular/AT&T car.

The Menard's scheme? Hurts the eyes with the electric yellow, but there's no mistaking it for something else.

Other stuff:

I don't remember if there are any more power tool sponsors out there, but the DeWalt car is striking, well designed and easy to spot on the track. I'm a big fan of the tools as well.

Not too sure if the Target car is a good idea, because that big target on the hood seems to guarantee it will get hit.

M&M's... is it any wonder that I have a bowl of them sitting on the coffee table come race day? I love it when the design scheme includes the scared M's on the back of the car.

And I can't tell you how glad I am that DuPont moved away from that awful rainbow design and went with the blue & red flames scheme. Though it is a bit like Optimus Prime.

The AT&T design scheme? HIDEOUS!!! I hate it. I have no problem with orange and blue together normally, but that scheme... sucks. Part of me hopes they lose the lawsuit and go back to the Cingular guy... at least it adds a bit of humor looking like somebody is sprawled across the hood.

Cell Phone companies can all go to hades for all I care.

Whiskey's.... JD is nice. Really like Crown Royal. JB don't care for the traditional colors. Now If they just did a white car with like Gold letterin like the bottle that would be better, same with the black label... no stripes just black with gold letterin.

Beer..... doesn't matter to me.

Home Improvement stores..... Rarely go to lowes. Partially do to that a-hole Johnson. I was talkin to an employee at one of those locations and he said they make the employees wear Johnson crap whether they are a fan of his or not. So I would rather have depot, cause I see employees wearin other stuff besides Tony Stewart.

My son is in the fire alarm business and one of their accounts is Home Depot and because of this, occasionally he has the opportunity to talk to some of the Home Depot employees. He says they told him that the employees do not get an employee discount on merchandise .. they have to pay full price! I know employees at Lowes get a discount, 'cause my sponsor's brother is a store manager for Lowes and buys everything on discount .. never pays retail.

on the one hand I like one store's policies but not their driver (1 for 2) but on the other hand I don't like the other store's policies nor their driver (0 for 2), but I still shop at both and root for neither.
