Talking How Did Jeff Gordon Lose?

3 Laps to go some driver slings gravel all over the track.

Of all the times NASCAR should pull out the yellow flag they don't.

Jeff Gordon drives through the gravel picking it up on his tires, Stewart following on his 6, doesn't pick up any.

When Gordon makes the corner, his back end slides out and Tony is in front to win.

I admit, I hated to see Tony win but was very relieved to see that he didn't bump Jeff Gordon out of the way to win it.

While Tony is my least favorite driver, I thought he raced hard and won clean!

Re: How Did Jeff Gordon Lose?

Gravel on his tires is the excuse he's using? I thought he might actually stick with the truth that he told in his interview. He was just driving hard and over drove it. Should have known they'd come up with a reason for it, goodness knows they can't say it was driver error, or driver just trying really hard to win the race.

Hmm, the only thing I've heard from him is the overdriving/driving error bit. Not sure if this is actually Gordon bringing up the gravel or just his supporters. At any rate, lots of guys lost it around that turn yesterday, nothing to be ashamed of. I wish he could've brought it home considering I had him starting in the fantasy league, but it made for one heck of an entertaining finish!

Re: How Did Jeff Gordon Lose?

I think it's his supporters. I had him in my fantasy league too. But that was just to much fun to watch.

Re: How Did Jeff Gordon Lose?

the TV shot from straight on shows Jeff wobble under braking (the infamous "tire hop", maybe?) then let off to regain traction, too late to keep him out of the run off area. the gravel story is a nice try, but there was at least a long straight plus a turn back to any gravel on the track that might have been gathered up by his tires. then there's the other racers who ran thru it prior to Gordon arriving on the scene... Sorry, I don't buy the gravel excuse: HMS PR at work trying to right Jeffie's wrong.

Yep, gravel on his tires isn't gonna fly, but as Racer Duck said, "nice try."
He clearly overdrove the curve, hit his breaks to hard and tire hopped into a spin.
He was driving out of his rear view mirror looking at the 20 reeling in the kitty again.

Re: How Did Jeff Gordon Lose?

Gordon can never own up to the fact that he makes error's He is blaming the fact that he lost control of the car ,thus costing him the race on the gravel that David Ragan slung out when he (David)got caught in the gravel's and rather than stopping he stood on the gas and kept plowing like Ryan Newman did.

Let's not go off bashing Gordon here just yet - I have yet to actually see or hear him use the gravel excuse.

I haven't seen that either. All I heard him say was he lost it. I am a Gordon supporter and I didn't make that excuse either.

Re: How Did Jeff Gordon Lose?

Interesting growth and expansion within this thread. Seems to start out with an observation, then goes in areas dabbling around - 24 says gravel is to blame, and HMS PR covers for the 24, and it's really just 24 supporters flying this excuse.

Reminds one of the game that has person #1 whisper a story in to person #2's ear and then ask person #10 to tell all what he/she eventually heard.

Truth seems to be taking a real beating.

Well, once again, the media or the Gordon supporters have not done him any favors. Lefty, I have not heard Gordon himself one time say it was gravel either, as you pointed out. I have heard him say more than once he was feeling pressure from Tony who was running great and he simply scewed up. He drove in too hard an lost it. Where did he make the "gravel" excuse? And if HMS spoke up with that kind of lame excuse, they need to zip it. Again, it's not doing him any favors. I'm with you on this one, Lefty. I really don't want to be defending the guy all the time, but it seems like he is purposely misquoted just to cause trouble. I'd be as ticked off if it were any driver, but so often it seems to be him!

Re: How Did Jeff Gordon Lose?

I haven't seen anywhere where he said it was gravel. After the race he said he just over drove it. Sounds like he just did the same thing that alot of them did.

You (at this point in time - cause things could change) are correct. The 24, HMS, or "supporters" have not seemed to make any claim to gravel.

Now there are those not in those categories who are "grovling", but that then is a whole 'nuther thing. Kinda like - build the lie, then blame it on the other guy/lady.

Watch closely now. The crap has hardly begun.

Re: How Did Jeff Gordon Lose?

Being a well known Gordon Basher.... I myself wouldn't be surprised if he made up an excuse for his failure...however I haven't heard or seen anything of the such so I will not go off on a tangent until some suitable evidence is produced

Gotta give anyone credit for that position, so you definitely got it here. Watch and see the variations on "suitable". It is at the very least, amusing.
