im curious what many here would do if you were in JPM's similar spot ?

youre in a car wreck that wasnt your fault ..... you get out to assess the damage to your car and the driver of the car you hit comes over to you ...... he gets in your face and starts swearing at you telling you he wants to kick your ass ........ just how was JPM supposed to react ?

im not angry anymore, just wish someone could explain it to me so it makes sense ...... because right now i think JPM pretty much kept his cool, how do you think it would have gone if Harvick got in most any other drivers face like that ?
Well, that's sweet!

I've seen Harvick throw a punch before. Again, memory fails me, but I think it was on pit road after a race was completed. Has nothing to do with his stature.

I guess I didn't pick up on the fact that Montoya was "assessing" his car. However, I'm not retracting my post. They are both "bad boys". Montoya already has a reputation and it's catching up with him. I'm not saying Harvick was right. Montoya put the big block on Truex and he paid for it. So did Harvick. There are no winners in this situation.

I don't have any answers for you, Simple, and I can't help to make sense of all of this.

Is it just me, or is this one of the most controversial Cup seasons in recent years? Seems like every week, something happens to stir up controversy or debate. I've probably said that before ...

Well, Simon, I admire Montoya's driving ability even though I feel he's too aggressive at times and although he is definately a hot head, I've got to agree with you on this one. I keep watching the video just to satisfy my own curiosity. The one thing I see Montoya do that escalated things was grab Harvick's mask, but I honestly can't tell if Harvick grabbed him first. But my big question is, when did it become illegal to block? It's not like Truex was already beside him. He was still behind. Granted, when you block you risk being punted. But I would've been blocking at that point in the race, long first gear or not. Montoya did not make a move toward Harvick even after his car was blocked my the #29. Harvick pursued Montoya more than once when Montoya tried to walk away. I'm not a big fan of either driver. I'm not a fan of settling things with violence. Given Montoya's temper, I really have to give him credit for not dropping Harvick in the first three seconds of that confrontation. I was very surprised and not altogether pleased with myself when I realized I was actually hoping it turned into a throw down the sticks, helmet off, gloves off, jersey's over the head kind of free for all. The "street fighter vs. the black belt". Montoya would have been in, out, back in the motor coach takin' a hot shower before Harvick even hit the ground.

Re: Harvick, Montoya nearly come to blows after wreck

As far as Montoya blocking Truex, he wasn't doing anything the rest of them haven't done. The reason I blame Harvick, is because all the following crap would not have happened if he hadn't parked in front of Montoya's car and went to Montoya.
Simon, if I had been in Montoya's place I probably wouldn't have handled it as good as he did. I think Montoya would have been in the right if he had put Harvick on his ass. And I was so hoping he would have.

I am going to ad that Harvick had the right to come over to Montoya and say something because it was really like the Boy who cried wolf for Montoya. He wrecks people all the time and since Montoya's car hit havick's car. Harvick should assume he spun him out on purpose.

this is really getting old ..... JPM does not wreck people all the time .... he is not in the top 20 in points by accident (or by causing accidents) .... and he didnt win at Sonoma by wrecking everyone else on the track

as Harvick proved, when you assume, you likely make an ass of yourself

Re: Harvick, Montoya nearly come to blows after wreck

Juan was mad before the race even started because he already lost the Busch Series the day before.

These guys all have to be totally jacked up on adrenaline racing these cars! Besides it all makes for some excitement.

They were probably both throwing back some brews together later that night.

IT is a good thing Montoya sucks at Michigan because if there was any chance these two start near each it could get ugly

Wow, this thing has gone on longer that the "battle" at the track! I'm sure these guys have worked it out, for now.

We will always see this type of thing a couple of times a year. All these guys should probably leave the fighting to the hockey guys, since most of them just embarass themselves anyway!

Here to a great race this weekend!

if only there was a track where payback are easy to cover up, you know like a high banked high speed 1/2 mile with a new suface

Well sure, after it was all over that's what Harvick had to said on TV, what else could he do, I mean he drives over, gets out of his car to make sure JPM was OK, next thing he knows Juan is slapping him all over the track. Harvick had to say something to save face!

I've been looking for any news about fines or points deductions and haven't seen any yet. Has anyone heard or read anything about this little exchange ?

I heard earlier there wouldn't be any fines or point deductions. Not seen anything offical about it though. Darby thought it was funny though.

the last story on this, dated Aug 13, as I looked just minutes ago on NASCAR.COM has a subhead "NASCAR spokesman doesn't expect penalties to follow". Since Tuesday is the day for penalty and fine stories and normal business hours have concluded, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say "there won't be any." (you may quote me, and probably will should I be proven wrong )

I hope not. The whole thing is getting blown out of proportion. Racing is a passionate, emotional sport. They can't keep fining people for getting hot under the collar, especially if no one is harmed. These kind of incidents happen weekly at the local levels, the guys have their say, and its usually over and forgotten the next week..........and everyone moves on. Na$car is becoming such a media circus, people have come to EXPECT punishment for any kind of non-robotic activity.
