Harvick's dream was IndyCar not NASCAR

Harvick's dream was IndyCar not NASCAR

It's a rather amazing discovery, considering that the 31-year-old Kevin Harvick once believed driving on the Indy car circuit would be the ultimate dream. "I grew up in Bakersfield (Calif.) and was a Rick Mears fan," Harvick said. "I grew up wanting to race Indy cars and win at the Brickyard." His father dissuaded him — not from racing, but from open-wheel racing. "If it didn't have fenders, it wasn't good enough," Harvick said. Since he climbed into what was the Dale Earnhardt Goodwrench Chevrolet in 2001, Harvick has proved that he's certainly good enough for NASCAR. In 233 career starts since 2001, he has 11 victories, 49 top-five finishes and 95 finishes in the top 10. -- Rochester Democrat and Chronicle
