| It was the third time in four years that qualifying at the Glen has been rained out, and the second time this season that Said has missed a Cup race due to a rainout. This latest stroke of awful luck will put his small team out of business, he said. "I don't know why they couldn't just have qualifying tomorrow when it's going to be sunny," Said said. "They don't want the little guy in the sport, basically. "NASCAR wants to get qualifying in, it's just the weather. But the forecast for tomorrow is great, so why not just qualify the cars tomorrow?" It cost Said $400,000 to attempt the Daytona race and another $200,000 in lost revenue for missing the race, which had a qualifying rainout. There were similar costs for the Watkins Glen race, he said. "[As a] small team, you spend all the money to get here," he said. Said, looking inconsolable, said he has no future plans in NASCAR after the Talladega Cup race. NascarScene.com

| Re: I Agree With Boris I was also wondering why they can't wait and qualify tomarrow. That really doesn't make alot of sense. Getting alittle old setting the field by points and so many getting screwed by it. |

maybe I'm just terribly disappointed that two good guys (Boris and Marcos) get screwed again by stupid rules and NASCAR's unbendable schedule. they just don't understand how big the "underdog" infatuation is with race fans .. another good PR opportunity blown.

| Re: I Agree With Boris you knew he would .. still, it won't get as much PR as at the Glen (and Marcos has a better than average chance to make the race being a good road racer and in good equipment .. not like P.J. or Terry who are in Mikey's "best".) |

| Re: I Agree With Boris I agree that the weather issue sucks with these guys on limited budgets. I was surprised to see that Boris was only 33rd quick in the first practice. But on a good note, we can root for Ron Fellows who is always fast at this track. He was 3rd quick in the first practice and will still get to run the race since he is in a "chosen" car. |

| Re: I Agree With Boris Boris did a great job of expressing the reality and associated frustration of the results of "acts of God" on a sport so VERY dependent upon conditions impacted by the whims of Mother Nature. As a once upon a time owner, we applauded his presentation, supported 100%+ his position, and could see no other view. Then there was - once upon a time we were a member of the governing body for an event that drew competitors from the eastern segment of the country. Winners would go on to the nationals. The "plan" was always - time your way in. EVERYBODY wanted to "time your way in". Starting at the front, especially in the short "heats" leading up to the "finals" was a preferred and advantageous thing. EVERYBODY was sure they'd "qualify at the front/pole - EVERYBODY. The event time schedule, even in the very best of weather conditions, was tight to the point of heart attack. Curfews, costs, support staff availability, and on, and on, and on, FORCED surrender to Mother Nature. Promise - there was absolutely no "wiggle" room, and often times "wiggling", while offering advantage to some, torpedoed others. Bend a little in certain things, and all structure/integrity is weakened. Now we were major minor league (now there's an oxymoron) compared to the event planning associated with the "big time". Sometimes "time in" got "rained out". The "Boris's" made spectacularly appealing, empathetic, and tear jerkingly descriptive presentations of alternative approaches that would serve right and fair. Shortly thereafter everyone moved on to reality and we raced with the cards dealt. Some likely "lost" for the fate dealt them in the event. The truly commited racers returned, and won on another day. There are many perspectives. As we "sat" with Boris tonight - he was the rightest guy on the planet. |

| Re: I Agree With Boris OK here is my veiw. Yes I feel for Boris and the rest of the road course ringers that didn't make it. If they want to make the field they should race the whole season like some of the others that are higher in points. |
| |||
| Re: I Agree With Boris Actually since it was rained out, I don't think any of the "ringers" should be allowed to race. The guy thats been driving all year and got where they are in points should have to race. The ringers didn't qualify for the race. |

Wow!! I like that!! |

| Re: I Agree With Boris ive always hated the way they call qualifying for rain and start the field by owner points.at least change the starting positions so first in points starts last and last in points start first.better yet dont rain out qualifying delay it till the next day or qualify right before the race on sunday.just dont make it where you dont have a chance to make the race at all.plus it totally kills the fact that we are at a road course and some of the front runners dont run very well.jeff gordon even hasnt finished better than 13 since 2001.not to mention road courses are some of the only tracks qualifying really matters.blows the fact that these are shake up races. |

| Re: I Agree With Boris As I mentioned in another thread. they should at least have a qualification method for the non-top 35 car. Either qualify those 14 cars one hot lap, take the faster cars from a practice session, or something else. The go or go home car should not be decided on past champion and owner point. This is how MWR managed to get his three cars in the race this week-end, otherwise he would have only 2 (at that his because he use the champion provisional to bypass Qualification) Last edited by OrionBen : 08-10-2007 at 10:04 PM.
