I think Denny will give him some competition right from the start. But I don't agree that he has the championship sewn up. Maybe in the old system he would, but not so sure now.

actually he doesn't .. remember that stupid Chase thing? when the last 10 races start, he and JJ are tied for the lead (unless one wins a race between now and then and the other doesn't...)

Once again, this Chase thing makes me want to pull my hair out. No matter how outstanding your year has been, it pretty much doesn't make too big of a difference come Chase time. The upside to that for me is that the "underdogs" in the Chase still have nearly as much chance at winning as do the the so called "big guns". Gordon's year could go straight down the tubes in those last 10 races, and so much for his success the rest of the year. I guess if we've got to endure the Chase, I'll have to look at (or make up) a positive side to it.

I sympathize with you on your frustration over Gordon, or anyone, being handed the pole. But we all now he's not only good at performing out in front with no competition, but starting out 41st and finishing 7th at the last road course tells me he's ok in traffic, as do his numerous road course wins. That having been said, just one little messed up pit stop, or one impatient move from the driver behind him, or one turn he takes too wide and he's no better than anyone else. Track position is super important in road courses, sure, and to have the best spot handed to one of the best drivers is frustrating as all heck. But it sure doesn't wrap up a win for him. Too many things can just not go his way and there is way too much excellent competition for it to be a done deal. All you fans in the anti-Gordon camp I hope are pleasantly surprised to see a great race on a tough, fast road course. He's not the only guy in the race just because he's on the pole. If he was, I'd be doing laundry instead of sitting in front of the tube.

And seeing that was the best part of the race. I thought he was gonna cry during his interview. That was just to good. It was already a great race, but that was just icing on the cake.

They finished 33rd and 38th, I think. But was there as big a deal made about them and how great they are on road courses as there was Gordon? Had they been running good all day and having the lead alot, and take the win away from themselves?

Actually as of right now Jeff would be 35 points ahead of JJ. They would each gain 40 points over the field but would not be tied in position and points overall.

Yep they would be tied. Start with 5000 points and then add 10 for each win.
