Jeremy Mayfield Out Of Ride Again

From Jayski:

Bill Davis to Release Mayfield at End of Season: Bill Davis Racing officials announced Tuesday that driver #36-Jeremy Mayfield will not return to the team next year. Mayfield joined BDR for the 2007 season as the team expanded to a two-car operation for Toyota's first season in Nextel Cup, but he has struggled this year, qualifying for only eight of the 21 races. No replacement driver has been named.

hey flip, cool avatar! I like it!

I think Jeremy's problem is not all Jeremy .. most of the season to date, the 'yota's haven't been equal to the task. they've only recently started showing any muscle at all.

Re: Jeremy Mayfield Out Of Ride Again

I'd love to see BDR put young Santos in the car, but it might be a case of moving him up too soon. He has mainly open wheel experience but has adapted very well, indeed. Some more seat time in Busch and he'll be ready in no time. As much as I'd like to see him given a chance at the big show, we all know what can happen when they move up too soon. Who else drives for BDR? Benson, I think, right? Is he a possiblity?

you mean "The Johnny Benson"? don't think he has much of a chance .. once a driver has been in the bright lights and moved back down, they hardly ever come back up. Johnny has seen some isolated Cup action from time to time. but methinks he's found his home in CTS.

Re: Jeremy Mayfield Out Of Ride Again

i think bill davis needs some new blood for their cup program.i like johnny benson hes from my home state, but he just doent have what it takes to be agressive enough to compete in the premier series.same for bill lester hed be great for diversity but thats about it.come to think of it its been a while since bill davis has had a young driver in the cup series.seems like they go after the hasbeens of the sport.not that any of them arent great drivers.just my observation.

Re: Jeremy Mayfield Out Of Ride Again

I'm glad that I have a driver that has a secure ride and seems to be very happy there .

However those cases aren't even true any longer as everyone thought that Jr would be at DEI forever and look at what happened .

The downside of having a driver that gets moved around a lot is having to buy new sponsor gear once a year or so .

I do have driver's that are in that situation ,but I chose just to pull for them yet not buy tee's ,jacket's ,hat's,as that could get expensive real quick.

I have a real soft spot for the Underdog . Alot of them .

However I feel bad for those like Jeremy who loose their ride simply because of the teams downfall when Toyota is failing all around .

Re: Jeremy Mayfield Out Of Ride Again

Mayfield has talent.... unfortunately his ego gets in the way of it. He might have a ride next year. It will be a hard sell though considerin his past with Penske and Evernham. This little stint with BDR will hurt him as well as his performance was not stellar, and people won't take into consideration the part of it bein a new team/new manufacturer. I think he screwed the pooch when he had that riff at Penske, followed shortly thereafter Evernham.

Re: Jeremy Mayfield Out Of Ride Again

Agreed. Mayfield has been his own worst enemy and now due to a combination of issues he may be looking for work for a while. When and if he does find it, it'll probably be a non-quality team.

Re: Jeremy Mayfield Out Of Ride Again

While I'm not fond of Mayfield, I hate to see this happen. Almost all the Toyota teams are struggling this year. I wish they'd give him one more year, since it's a new manufacture. I think they'll do alot better next year. Wonder who'll hire him now?

Re: Jeremy Mayfield Out Of Ride Again

That's true they do.It'll probably be somebody like that that'll pick him up. Do you think any of the "major" teams would have him?

it depends on his "bang for the buck" .. what does he bring to the table from the past 2-3 years besides a few comical commercials and some middle of the pack finishes?
