Re: Death at Pocono Raceway

This is indeed sad and prayers going out .

I'm truly amazed that we don't hear about drunks falling down the STEEP step's in the grandstand's,especially at Bristol

Are public intoxication laws enforced at NASCAR events? Will the family of the deceased sue NASCAR?

I don't think that public intoxication law's are enforced at Nascar event's. I mean people even walk down the road holding beer in their hand "drinking it " ,right in front of the police.

Re: Death at Pocono Raceway

I don't know if alcohol had anything to do with the guy falling off the camper or not.

I'm not against alcohol at these events but I've heard about a lot of fans getting totally wasted.

I figure the family will sue NASCAR and the manufacturer of the camper.

Re: Death at Pocono Raceway

Tough subject. Scary and sad.

There is no way the family will win a law suit against NASCAR or the manufacturer of the RV. Just isn't going to happen. What was he doing on the roof? Doesn't matter if he was intoxicated or not.

Based on what I've seen, if public intoxication laws were enforced at NASCAR events, 15% of the fans would be jailed. Beyond that, leaving the event, many, many drivers are pretty much wasted and still holding a beer in their hand as they drive by the police. Frankly, the police don't care. They just want to get the masses out of the track area and on their way. Nothing against the police at all. They are simply directing traffic.

Again, very sad, but I don't think anyone can be held accountable for this horrible accident.

Alot of people that have RV's put viewing platform's on top.

I know high area's and drunk's do not go hand in hand

I think that rate would be MUCH MUCH higher

Agreed. Lots of people are on the top of their RVs at the races and other places.

Actually, I originally typed 30%, but thought I'd get my head handed to me, so I cut back to 15%.

Re: Death at Pocono Raceway

Very few RV manufacturers "condone" rooftop events. Adding platforms is a complete NO-NO, unless the manufacturer states it in their literature. But then how many race fans read their manufacturer's literature?

Penny, I think 30% is way low. My experience (on both sides) is that half will be "legally" intoxicated. But, you're right. The police are mainly interested in getting the fans (intoxicated or not) on the road, not clogging up their jail cells.

(BTW, how's my capitalization & punctuation? )

Tough subject. Family won't get a penny in a lawsuit. Only time public intoxication laws are enforced is when someone or a crowd of someones get unruly. Went to Dega last year in April. I say more like 75% were drunk/wasted.

30% is low, huh? Probably. Actually, I would have been considered "legally" intoxicated when I attended Loudon. However, not a staggering drunk. There are plenty of those in the parking areas ... even at 7:00 in the morning. But leaving the track, I'm sure I would fail a breathalyzer even though I was sure I had my wits about me.

We don't know for sure whether or not this guy who lost his life was drunk. Likely? Yes.

And your capitalization and punctuation are perfect! How's my spelling?

Ducky .. in Firefox if you misspell a word there will be a red line under the misspelled word. If you then put the cursor over it and right click it will give you some choices to work with. If you see no red lines then yer a grate speller !!! If you use IE there will be an icon in the upper right of where you are creating your post.
