Re: Rules Enforcement

I still feel that Nascar should have taken points away from the 48 team at Daytona, if you cheat, you should be points penalized. Their reasoning behind not doing that was that the HOF Racing team added an illegal part (being a carbeurator, hm, do you need a carbeurator to drive a car?), the 48 team just "modified" something already on the car. Having your crew chief taken away on race day and a fine isn't punishment enough. So no, I don't feel that they are enforced fairly at all.

Re: Rules Enforcement

I totaly agree with Smoke. After an obvious flagrant infraction like that, they should have never been in a position to win that race. That car should have been put back on the hauler with NO points. That would keep them from trying something like that again. Oh wait, Lowes is a MAJOR SPONSOR......and we can't upset them.

Heck, a couple of years ago, they set Kevin Harvick down for a Cup race, for bad behavior (fighting) after a TRUCK race!!!

Re: Rules Enforcement

I alos agree with the thought that the team should sit out a race or two ... not just one member of the team. There would be a lot less "Knausing" if there was a real threat to the points.

I went to Daytona...the next day the headlines were "CHEATERS WIN"
...that says it all

Re: Rules Enforcement

I believe if the team was caught cheating AFTER the Daytona 500, then they should have been penalized, but it was qualifing.

So you are saying that it's O.K. to cheat because it was "just" qualifying? That's pretty lame! Nascar DOES NOT enforce the rules fairly or equally, there are plenty of incidents to prove that, I'm sure that everyone of us can think of at least 1 incident, and once we put them all together, we will see a long list - D.J. at road course (couple or so years ago), car was smoking, black flagged him, waited for him to come in and then threw the caution, then said the car was fine, he lost the championship that year because of that incident. What I feel would be the #1 reason to say that Nascar doesn't enforce rules fairly or equally is - Look at Gordon's 4 "championships", there's plenty of incidents right there, if things were fair and equal, there's no way he would have 4 "championships!"

Re: Rules Enforcement

when you go to a local track, if your car doesn't pass pre race tech, then you don't race, if it fail post race tech....guess what DQ no money or points.
I feel nascar should operate like this.

anyone remember whenmark martin was fined 40 points for an intake carb spacer, would have been legal if it were welded on...............oh by the way mark lost the championship to earnhardt that year by 20 pts.

I do remember that year that Martin was busted for the intake. That was a weird deal, but I think the rules said no two piece intakes, or something to that effect. Since it was two pieces they got popped. I think Jack was experienting with different shaped spacers for torque and power differences, instead of changing intakes. The problem was, it was not approved by Nascar.
You are so correct about local tracks. I pitted on my best friends modified and late model for 8 years. At some tracks, if you failed tech before hot laps.....you loaded up and went home. Others only teched the top 3 or 4 after the A Main. If you were busted at that time, you lost any purse money and all points for the night. If keeps guys in line. These $10k fines to multi-million dollar times are absurd to say the least. Obviously it doesnt hurt to lose a crew chief for a few races either.

So now I'm really confused. 1st off I really hate the fact that anyone even tries to cheat. Secondly I am not Johnsons biggest fan. I'm certainly not defending anything any of the cheaters do .... but. When exactly did the team get caught ? I thought it was before qualifying. If it was corrected before qualifying then there was no cheating. Only a poor attempt at "Knausing". If he qualified and then got caught that changes my perspective even more about NASCAR's ability to fairly and equally dipense justice. I do like the idea that if you are guilty then you load up and go home. That just might reduce the attempts at "Knausing".

Yes it was before qualifying. Nascar kind of sat there with egg on their face when another competitor spotted the "adjustable window" after they had already passed tech. Thats the story I got anyway.

Re: Rules Enforcement

Once again I'm not a major fan or hater of Johnson but if the error was in fact resolved prior to qualifying then it shouldn't be a race finish issue. Now the fact that they even attempted is another story. How can you consider taking points away whn there was no infraction of the rules for the race? No infraction even during qualifying. The attempt to get past tech may deserve some type of team punishment but no point loss. As was suggested in another post if you want to try to "Knaus" and get caught then maybe your prize would be first hauler out of the track .... like maybe two days in advance of the race.

Re: Rules Enforcement

LSC9901, I went and rechecked the issue with the 48 car at Daytona, and it was caught in a post-qualifying inspection.......not before as had I thought. Getting old sucks.........the first to go is the memory.
