| Should Nascar Move Cup Race To Canada? If the Busch race at Montreal comes off well this weekend, should NASCAR ditch Watkins Glen and move the Cup race north of the border? No. What NASCAR should do is walk down the hall of their Daytona Beach headquarters to the folks at International Speedway Corp. and tell them that it's long past time they spend the money to bring Watkins Glen up to standards. The fans in upstate New York have supported that track with their dollars, and it's high time ISC give some of that money back to the historic facility so it can actually become a place where racing's biggest series should go. -- Charlotte Observer That's Racin' | 08/02/2007 | Observations | Heat races? | Re: Should Nascar Move Cup Race To Canada? I would love to see a race up in Canada, but at the cost of racing where? As far as I know they sell out everywhere. Also, while road course events are a nice change I would prefer to see them race an oval. Does Canada have a track that is suitable? |

| Re: Should Nascar Move Cup Race To Canada? Nooooooooo. It's insanity. For real I love Watkins Glen. But I'm an old school guy who doesn't wanna get rid of any tracks. Get rid of Kansas or Chicago and bring back Riverside. |

| Re: Should Nascar Move Cup Race To Canada? Who decided that The Glen was no longer suitable? I love that place, used to spend my birthday weekend up there and have a good time. If there gonna ditch one of the road courses for another, naturally I'd say it'd better be Riverside, but I doubt that's do-able. |

| Re: Should Nascar Move Cup Race To Canada? how about they dump the 2nd race at every track, then add all the other tracks that should have a race date, but don't. there's some old and some new out there who deserve a race. I'd bet the 3 bucks I have in my pocket that most if not all of the "added" tracks would sell out. after all, how many other premier racing series have any track on their schedule multiple times each season? I bet the number is less than you could count with one finger....

Reason this will N-E-V-E-R happen: NASCAR makes money on every race in its now inflated schedule. NASCAR considers it a mortal sin to leave any money on the table when it comes to profit. I'm a stone-solid capitalist but also like stock car racing and I think a shorter schedule would make the racing more appreciated, more competitive and make the fans be less blase about it. OK, fire away.

For example: Out: August Pocono In: Kentucky Out: September California In: DARLINGTON Out: September New Hampshire In: IRP Maybe? If anything needs to be ADDED to the schedule, It's definately more short tracks. Out: The second dates at Phoenix, Texas, Michigan and Charlotte and just leave it as is. That way at the very least, the schedule is cut back down to 32, and You have some viable races that surely would sell more than the ones you got rid of after some modernization. To get back to the Monteal subject, I've never seen a race, nor do I even know what the place looks like. I'd have to see it before I said anything, because I've always thought that this is racing, and if you're gonna race, you need to get a taste of road racing to shake things up and separate the racers from the drivers (of you can make sense of that). |
