Re: Stewart penalized But the money fine is not what gets the drivers attention, the point reduction does that. The money they make enough that it don't hurt them. The points are what wins the championship, start taking those and they notice.

Re: Stewart penalized I'm an Italian fan of NASCAR and a fan of Tony Stewart. My opinion is simple. Here in Europe we watch to Formula 1 and there's nothing more boring than that. Noone can say anything. Everything is ruleD and eventually penalized. There are thousands of new rules every year that take away all the fun. When i started watching NASCAR i liked it because there were not all those things. I like a sport with less rules...where there's some more fighting and rivalry by actions and by words. I think that what Tony Stewart said was just a try to give credit to his fans...he used some rough words...so what? Where the big problem? Those guys run every week at risk of their life, they feel emotions, fear, excitement for the victory and maybe they can be pissed off by other drivers or media. And when they jump off their cars, after 3 hours at the end of the race we want them to speak like British Lords? Stewart said what he thought....i wish more people in life do that....instead of making ridiculous "pre-prepared" spechees that mean nothing.

Re: Stewart penalized If they let the drivers get up there and start cussing, sponsors are gonna start pulling out. And like it or not, sponsors are what makes the cars go round. So what do you think Nascar is gonna do? Let them say anything and let sponsors go, or tell the drivers they can't do it?

I like the "British Lords" line. Unfortunately, in the United States the government has laws about broadcasting certain "colorful" words over the airways. NASCAR's rules in that area are mostly in response to those laws. The broadcast medium (TV network, radio network, etc.) is ultimately held responsible for allowing those words to be broadcast, but NASCAR has taken a pro-active role in policing the problem. All the drivers understand this, and most comply. This particular instance was a direct challenge to NASCAR and ESPN (Tony doesn't care for the ESPN broadcasters and has made his feelings known on numerous occasions.) His breaking of the rule wasn't accidental, it was intentional. Accidents can be forgiven, blatant acts like his cannot.

Re: Stewart penalized I too like it when a new member jumps in head first with opinions. This particular driver and subject always create discussion. I for one do not have virgin ears. I've heard that word and a couple others that may be considered a little worse. Like Ducky I'm not sure what your rules are over there governing the type of language Tony used. In some countries over there kids drink wine at a very young age. We do not (legally anyway). I'm sure you have many rules/laws where you live that you may not like but you still have to deal with them. That was the case here. As has been noted Tony's outburst wasn't in the heat of the moment ... it was totally calculated and probably planned in the back of his mind for a very long time. He already knew what the penalties would be. The sad part is that Tony could be the face of NASCAR for many years but now he has once again proven that he still has an attitude problem that will always keep him listed as a second rate NASCAR driver. His abilities behind the wheel are tremendous but he just doesn't have the total package.

Re: Stewart penalized The only time I really seen Stewart shut up was when Home Depot fined his a$$.... he was much calmer after that for a little while. If everyone wants to calm him down so bad, start writin Home Depot, they'll hose him down.

Re: Stewart penalized I've heard worse language on the hit TV show "Friends". Couldn't NASCAR find a compromise some where between HBO's hit series the Sopranos or Deadwood and say maybe Mister Rogers?
