Gordon may have the chase wrapped up but not the Cup.
Then again, lots can happen between Pocona and Loudon.
Smoke's just getting cranked up and Gordon is just riding around looking pretty

I'm sorry Bears but from my view that is a terrible excuse that all to many athletes use for their attitudes. If we all used that one just imagine what our society would be like. I'm not trying to get all moral or anything like that but when you become famous, like it or not, you become the role model. If that is the type of attitude most people like then fine, but I don't think so.

All that said I still think he has driving abilitites beyond what mere mortals have.

when a guy makes maybe $15M-$20M a year, $25K is just lunch money. a fine is supposed to make you think about the rules infraction before you do it again .. hitting their driver points and owner points is a way to do that. and it's not like 25 points is a big deal .. 8 positions in one race, max.

remember, this wasn't a slip .. it was intentional - he knew exactly what he was doing when he did it. some guys like Tony need the proverbial 2X4 up 'side the head to get their attention. now, it they'd taken the win away and dropped him to 11th, think that would have gotten his attention?

the rule is there for a reason, like it or not. Tony chose to deliberately violate it. he deserves all the punishment prescribed by the rules.

Once again I don't want to turn this into a social issue but ....... As soon as we allow anyone to freely say bull____ on the TV there will be someone else trying to slip the next word in. If that is OK with you then there is no point in discussion on my part. There are times I talk like a drunken sailor, but I know when and where it is acceptable. Tony KNEW FULL WELL what he was doing. As far as I'm concerned there is a rule in place, he violated it and now suffers the penalty. After all ... aren't that what rules are for ???

making illegal modifications to the car doesn't turn away longtime fans either.

if you want the "inappropriate language" rule changed, talk to NA$CAR and the FCC. it's their rule .. maybe they will decide your arguments are worthwhile and change the rule, but I doubt it.

bears, the corporate sponsors want the drivers to act a certain way, and NASCAR is protecting those sponsors. Quite frankly Tony Stewart will say what he wants if NASCAR likes it or not. I have always liked that attitude out of Stewart, even though I have disagreed with some of the stuff he says.

sorry bear, I haven't done a very good job of communicating. what I was trying to say (but did it badly) was there are rules about lots of things in NA$CAR and when you break one, whether it helps you in a race or not, you suffer the consequences of fines and point penalties. if you do it enough, even though you gain no advantage on the track, you risk the possibility of being banned. that could happen to Tony. I know, I know, the fans would probably revolt .. both of them .. but if Tony decides to continue butting heads with NA$CAR management, it's entirely possible he could be banned. not good for Tony nor NA$CAR, but remember, it's their ball and they say who plays. if he doesn't want to follow their rules, no matter how stupid you or anyone else feels they are, he won't be allowed to play in their game.

Re: Stewart penalized

Smoke is driving in the wrong era.
He could go backwards in time, fit right in, and win races.
Just think, Tony Stewart racing The Alabama Gang...
Wouldn't that be fun to watch?
