Draft Track a huge failure?

ESPN's much-hyped Draft Track was, uh, really silly. It made the old glowing puck in hockey seem, by comparison, as significant as the invention of the telephone. Regardless of how high-tech or accurate the network will claim it is, it basically looked like lame graphics from a cheap sci-fi flick. When Tony Stewart grabbed the lead from Kevin Harvick, it looked as if his Chevrolet were equipped with a flux capacitor. -- Gaston Gazette

Re: Draft Track a huge failure?

not because of it's technical innovation, but I liked the idea and, with a little work it won't look quite as bad as old Flash Gordon movies. you'd think with all the giga-flops they have to do their animations and graphics they could come up with something other than chartreuse & turquoise flames (my TV didn't translate them as yellow & blue, but then it's only an 8 mo old Sony HD so what does it know?) still I was impressed that they tried something new.

I thought it was about as pointless as that video game graphic deal Fox had, but at least they didn't use it during live action, so it's easy to ignore. I like the touch screen thing in the tech center though.

I'm colorblind so I gotta say it didn't do anything for me at all.

I didn't care much for it. It seemed that Rusty contridicted himself when he was trying to explain it. That or I guess I just didn't get it. I did like that touch screen demo for the motor.

Re: Draft Track a huge failure?

I thought if they had set up a slot car track in the studio the announcers could recreate what was happening with the race with their insightful analysis and special effects.

Plus it'd be even cheaper than paying a computer graphics intern to do those cheesy graphics!

Re: Draft Track a huge failure?

Not really impressed with Draft Track. If ESPN were doing Talladega later this year, they'd probably wear it out.
I am getting impressed with Tim Brewer in the Tech Center and the touch screen. Beats what the other networks did.

I "get" the draft and aero. Don't need cartoons to explain it.

Re: Draft Track a huge failure?

I suppose if you were very new to racing and had not a clue how the draft works it might be interesting the first few times. Personally, I throw something at the TV every time it comes on.

Funny you should mention that. My husband's pride and joy is his huge 61" TV. (You guys all have "TV envy" now, don't you! ) It has a lovely mark way up in the left hand corner from my sneaker. I will never be allowed to forget. I don't even walk by the TV anymore, I just stay the heck out of it's way!

not really, mine's a 55", but it's the largest that'll fit in the entertainment center's 56" opening (solid oak bought 15 years ago and not a candidate for replacement nor modification!)
