Indy attendance bad?

For the first time in NASCAR's Indy history, there were numerous empty seats on the front straight. There lots of empty seats everywhere except on the front straight. According to writers who covered both races, for the first time in recent years, the Indy 500 crowd was clearly larger than the NASCAR crowd. ESPN's Brent Musburger lied to the television audience by estimating the crowd at 250,000 and claim-ing "there isn't a seat to be had." Without question, it was, by far, the smallest crowd in the 14 years a stock-car race has been run here. -- Gaston Gazette

Re: Indy attendance bad?

I don't recall just where the camera was when he was talking about that but in one of the corners there was very clearly many empty seats. I suppose it is possible they all needed a restroom run at the same time. Maybe only certain sections can go at certain times ???

I understand there were some folks who didn't make the start because they were still waiting for wreckers to get their cars unstuck from Friday's rainout.

Re: Indy attendance bad?

I remember always seeing the small grandstand in turn 3 noticeably empy, but that's it. The fronstretch was pretty much filled with orange and red as always.

They always say and will always say it's at it's all-time high fan popularity because they want to attract fans, only problem is the fans aren't stupid and know when smoke is bein blowin smoke up their arses. Reason in decrease in seating.... The fad fans that NA$CAR has been caterin to are now leavin because it's now not a fad to be part of, and since the longtime/old school fans have been get pi$$ed off at NA$CAR the are leavin the sport.

The big folks in NASCAR managment need to realize that the places they are trying to take this sport either aren't interested, or to put it bluntly, just plain suck. You know, Fontana, Joliet...

The fans you mentioned who only watch because it's become cool are even more intolerant of dull racing than anybody else, and that's what you get at those places. The people in a certain location aren't going to go to a race just because there's a track there all of a sudden. It has to be worth it and lets face it, Fontana was a disaster from the start and I fell asleep during the Chicago race.

Don't get me started on that one. NA$CAR managenment only listens to those that critisize them.... those individuals are also the ones that they can punish for their comments i.e. the drivers or owners or team members

I'm sure with a few four letter words, some insults and a threat or two it'll work just fine.
