Best All Around NASCAR Representative

After the Indy race we were once again subjected to a nationally televised cuss word. Certainly not the first time any of us have heard it or any like it.

It did make me wonder who you think is the best representative of NASCAR from the drivers group. I will over a short period of time post the names of the 50 top drivers in the points standings as they are the "regulars" to NASCAR. There are 64 listed in the standing I chose but some are just part time or one time drivers. The only real exception to that would be Michael Waltrip and if you all feel he deserves to be in we can add him.

I'll create a poll with 10 drivers in each poll. The top three from each poll will advance to the second round. That should give us 15 drivers out of the 50. If you feel Mikey should be in then we'll give him a free ride to round 2. In round two we'll reduce the number in half and then give the final award from round three to the highest vote getter.

Keep in mind that this shouldn't be a popularuty vote but a vote for who best represents what you think NASCAR should portray.

Now get out there and vote !!!

I voted for Gordon, but Carl Edwards wouldn't be that bad either. A good driver, and he keeps himself in shape.

That is not a bad image for a sport that seems to be pegged as beer drinking idiots!

Not that I'm a big Gordon fan either, but he does live a clean lifestyle, as far as we know, and is a winner and good spokeman.

Jeff Burton is another great choice! But we can have only one!

Re: Best All Around NASCAR Representative

it was close between the Jeffs. but I finally went with Burton because he's been on the forefront of the safety issue and is more the gentleman on the track. winning is good, and Gordon is one of the best, but there's been times... just say I'd rather see a guy run 2nd and do it cleanly than win the other way - doesn't get you many championships, but sure gets lots of respect.

Re: Best All Around NASCAR Representative

from that list I'd go with gordon, he well spoken, clean cut and does have a bad backgound.

although I high respect jeff burton.

I think mikey should be included,

I believe this will come down to Jr. and Jeff.

Re: Best All Around NASCAR Representative

Oddly enough out of those posted - the top in points I wouldn't say any of them are good represenatives of NASCAR. What does that say about me?

I would say that you have very high standards for a representative.

Re: Best All Around NASCAR Representative

I guess maybe I'm confusing represenative and spokesman.

If I wanted a represenative of NASCAR I think it would be someone who came up the traditional ranks of NASCAR, IE the dirt track or short track asphalt. There are several on there that don't qualify in that respect such as Gordon, Stewart. I'm not sure on Jeff Burton to be truthful, but he would probably be my pick out this group.

Before I vote, then, I'll need my usual clarification. NASCAR is rather a confusing business. What, exactly, are the traditional ranks of NASCAR? Since I'm pretty sure I know most of he answer, my next question would be won't that narrow the field quite bit? And does coming up through the ranks make them a better driver? Personally, I think open wheel experience makes better drivers, but that's not traditional. I do think dirt track is invaluable to a driver. What does short track asphalt include? Sprints, modifieds, supermodifieds, midgets, quarter midgets, karts, etc...?
As others on here will tell you, I spend a lot of time in a state of confusion, but I love it when someone like yourself can afford me much needed learning experience. Welcome!

Re: Best All Around NASCAR Representative

Burton... he's the only class act in that bunch IMHO.... Look how he keeps riffs on the track to him and the other driver. Also it takes alot for him to explode.
