New Young Fans

my six old daughter starting kinda whatching bits and pieces of race last year. thr first time she picked a driver to win was kasey kahne at richmond.
she didn't whatch the whole race but was excited that her guy won.
after that every once in a while she would inquire as to if kasey had or was winning.

well we were at the mall on saturday and came to a NASCAR shop, she got all excited and wanted to go in , well dad didn't have a problem with that
my wife and 8 yr. old went to look at clothes.
anyhow we go in the NASCAR shop and she wants an 80.00 kasey diecast car. I talked her out of that and siad lets look at T-shirts. we found a T-shirt in her size, but she decided that she had to have a hat to wear at T-ball. we found the child size hat and she picks one out, looks at me and says I really need a shirt to go with this dad!
o.k. so she a shirt too, then hits me with we have to buy Payton a shirt too, it wouldn't be fair. we pick a tony stewart shirt for the oldest.

so now we got 2 shirts and a hat at 50 bucks, "you know dad I need a #9 jacket"
not today!
well I thought it would blow over by sunday morning, nope she threw a fit to wear her new shirt and cap to sunday school, she won.after sunday school we went to dover to do some shed pricing. well we ended up out side to mall at sears while my wife went back to look for her cell phone, this is directly next to dover downs, and we started talking about racing again, they want to go to the dover race(and get on TV )and buy a jacket.
I find the race on the radio with 35 laps to go and who is winning kahne/stewart, my six years was yelling for kasey to win.

sorry so long winded! just wanted to share that, it funny how kids just pop on to something.
now I gotta figure out what to do with all that wiggles stuff!

boy I got a couple of redneck girls

Phew... I thought I was going to have to lecture you until you showed me some sanity with that purchase!!

I'm jealous. I have three sons and despite the jackets I have bought them, letting them pick their own drivers (boy do I have some work to do on that one) the races I've taken them to, and my daily updates, they have only a passing interest in racing. Where have I gone wrong?!

My oldest has suddenly gained a big interest in football though so I guess there is hope. That may be more due to the cheerleaders though than the game!

Hey...anybody know how I can get Danica Patrick into Nascar?

Thumbs up Re: New Young Fans

Rave20, thats one sharp 6 year old you have there! She knows how to pick a winner! Kasey will be in the Chase this year........and be a factor to win the Cup. Oh, and you can probably get her that diecast on ebay for almost half of the store price.

Re: New Young Fans

While reading about your daughters "shopping list" I had a big smile......this little one is gonna cost you.......

How many more years you think Casey will be running?? Multiply that by a couple hundred a year in souveniors etc....Yes, us girls luv to shop!

I have a suitcase just for "track Day"...when it's time to go I get out the suitcase and suit up!! Plus all my #17 jewlery, wallet, key chain, stickers...heck my office is a shrine to NASCAR. Think I will take a picture of my salute to #20 that I nailed on the wall when I came home from Daytona.....anyway, I digress

Have fun with your daughter

Nevada; that is oncea3fan's six year old. But I do have three sharp sons! Your ebay comment is dead on. I rarely buy anything nascar unless it's from there. Just be careful to buy "new with tags" only if buying clothing. Otherwise it's a big dice roll.

My grandson thinks the race is on almost everyday. I wish he was right, but he loves to watch with me. He says come on PaPa lets go race-in. He'll be three next month.

Re: New Young Fans

Otherwise it's a big dice roll.

I was at the rock in spring 2001(what a week for an earnhardt fan)and bought both girls dale jr. jackets, they just now fit my 6 year old.
they weren't with me at the time and I thought that they looked about the right size

Re: New Young Fans

OnceA3,

Reading this post brings me back to when I first got 'into' NASCAR. I always knew the races were on TV but never really paid attention until one day in 1997 I turned on the TV and watched a race from start to finish. I don't know what happened - it just hit me. I didn't know any drivers but I was hooked. Fast forward to 2006. I put together a small fantasy league with about 20 of my freinds of which 18 of them not knowing the first thing about NASCAR. In years past they considered NASCAR that 'hillbilly' race. Now they are all into it with their favorite drivers. Hey you got to be with $200.00 in prize money on the line.

Now an observation:

I’m sure ole Kasey Kahne is a fine upstanding citizen and I can see how a 6-yr. old is easily swayed, But buying a Tony Stewart tee shirt, you probably were gritting your teeth all the way to the cash register. The obvious choice for NASCAR paraphernalia is anything Gordo.

BTW I just got a #24 salt & pepper shaker set; and the cost? - $15.00. Now that’s a deal.

Done and done
