The H stands for Habitants, a term used in reference to early French Canadians. That is why the nickname of the team is "Les/The Habs."

You see Ducky ... I'm from New England. About an hour from Montreal.

aahhh, so you know how to read those french road signs too!

down here we have french cajuns .. close but not the same .. and they're about 4 hours away (isn't everything in Texas?) and our local hockey team (yeah, we actually have one) is named after our local wildlife: bats. but I don't remember any mysterious signs in their logo .. just stupid looking bats on ice skates. but I'll have to look at it again to make sure...

All questions and statements in Canada end with "ehhh" (pronounced ayyyy). In the U.S. we use the exclamation point.

From one fellow New Englander to another, ever had poutine/poutsin? A staple in Canada. Can even get it at McDonald's. You know, that artery-clogging, "death-in-a-bowl" dish with french fries covered with tons of melted cheese, then smothered with gravy? Oh, my!

I know ... off topic!

Not that exact way but we do have a place in town that has fries and gravy. Sinfully delicious

down here in the lower portions of the 48, we replace the gravy with chili. mm .. mm .. good! course we invented bisquits 'n' gravy in the south, so chili fries isn't too much of a stretch...

one thing I do miss from the northland is Italian sausage wraps (Italian sausage with grilled onions between the folds of a slice of bread) .. had my first one at the races in Owego, NY. in 1972. for some reason they always tasted better at the track.

(that last was an attempt to tie this in to racing and get closer to the topic of the thread)
