NASCAR conspiracy talk won't go away

NASCAR is faced with a growing need to defend not only its judgment but its integrity. Perhaps it stems from the public's general mistrust of institutions (government, media, big business) or a blogosphere and talk radio culture that allows everyone with an opinion, however outrageous, an easy means to express it to a broad audience. Or maybe, as NASCAR president Mike Helton said, it's simply fans frustrated by their driver having a bad day needing someone to blame. "We hear it and it doesn't sit well," Helton said. "No one works as hard as we do to protect our integrity and credibility. "When I hear the conspiracy theories on how we can fix (races) and arrange things a certain way, I want to tell them two things: One, we're not that smart; and two, do you realize how many people you'd have to get involved to manipulate the outcome of a race?" -- Indy Star

IRT Bold: Exactly two, Michael. The flagman and the one who tells him to throw a yellow because of debris on the track.

IRT the rest of the article: What, pray tell, would you expect Mike Helton, or any NASCAR official/spokesman to say about doubts as to the integrity of NASCAR?

"if we could see the debris, we'd show it to you"

I've heard that numerous times with Jeff Gordon or Jimmie Johnson are running second.

I also have seen a very drastic decrease in runnaway victories due to yellows coming out inside of ten laps to go. I havent seen a race go caution free for the last 60 laps in a decade it seems like.

I'll take to the writers and see if they can't work that into the script.

Re: NASCAR conspiracy talk won't go away

Oh boy, here we go again with the NASCAR conspiracy saga of "manipulating" races. I'm sure we will hear the same exact stuff that is said time and time again. "NASCAR helps Gordon, NASCAR helps Jr, NASCAR helps this person and that person AHHHHHHHHHHHH!"

I would have to disagree. It's more of less someone just getting tired of someone constantly winning, or the spotlight constantly on that driver. So we need to find someone to bash. What a great subject to let out your anger

Now yes, we all have our opinions. But in this matter, I just find it out right ridiculous we are even talking about this crap. I'm sure these conspiracy theorist will continue to find ways to pick apart NASCAR!

Gotta love angry fans.
Personally, Michael I do not think NASCAR favours any one driver overtly. However, I believe in the very depths of my little heart that they manipulate the Lucky Dog's and debris cautions to try and make every race as artificially close as possible. Manipulation is manipulation, no mater what the reason.

I will agree with debris cautions to bunch up the field, and the lucky dog, well I won't go into that.

Dale Sr would be so miserable in todays NASCAR. Alot of the stuff he thrived on would be handed to you, such as your lap back!

LSC, Helton said they aren't that smart to fix races, and most of you say the management in NASCAR isn't intelligent. So......

hmmm.... 00 blows up in turn 2 at Dega and is blowin smoke down the whole backstretch, and as soon as Gordon noses out front the caution comes out. Phantom debris cautions happening all the time. Tony Stewart mouths off about it, and the tv crews in turn start lookin for the debris. Big surprise the phantom debris cautions drop drastically. They favor certain drivers. As to his comment on fans lookin to blame someone for their driver not doin good.... no.... I know why my driver isn't doin good, and it's not nascars fault.

Re: NASCAR conspiracy talk won't go away

The debris cautions have stopped alot since Tony called them out on that. But they were getting alittle obvious with them. I also don't blame Nascar when my driver doesn't do good. It's always because he wrecks, engine blows or he just runs/drives like crap.

No sense of arguing. You have your opinion, I have mine.
