DEI's Max Siegel's interest in NASCAR was fostered by former NFL star Reggie White, a client and close friend. In 2002, they began to explore either buying or starting a team. White's death three years ago derailed the project. But White's passion about bringing more diversity to NASCAR stuck with Siegel and is part of what drives him. "We need to introduce this sport to a broader audience and we need to introduce a broader talent pool to this sport," he said. "I remain very passionate about that." Somewhat to his surprise, he hasn't experienced prejudice in his seven months on the job. "I'm not naïve. It could be out there," he said. "But so far, I couldn't have asked for more support."
