I don't remember if it was '85, but man! I loved Danny (Rick Mears too)! Any driver who can pull a 360 and win the race is ok in my book.

I sure do miss the good old days when Indy was Indy. I don't even follow open wheel anymore.

Re: Favorite Drivers & Misc

1st Favorite Driver: Bobby Allison
My favorite driver would change in 1980 to Dale Earnhardt.
The list of ALL my favorite drivers over the years is short. Bobby Allison, Davey Allison and Dale Earnhardt.
Oh, and Alan Kulwicki, but not like those three.

I really haven't had a favorite driver since Feb. 18, 2001.
I like Jr. because I've watched him grow up, literally, and I like Tony Stewart. I believe he could go back in time and hold his own with anybody.

Year I Became a NASCAR Fan: 1978
I went to the Dixie 500 at Atlanta International Speedway in Atlanta on November 5th, 1978 with a friend.
That was my first introduction to NASCAR. I was hopelessly and forever hooked.

Tracks: Atlanta Motor Speedway (1 hour drive from my house) and Talladega (2 hour drive from home). Went to allot of races at both places over the years.
And Texas Motor Speedway. Moved here to Oklahoma City 4 years ago, and went to Texas for the first time last April. Going again in November.
It certainly ain't Atlanta or Talladega, but it's still fun.

Name: Robert

Re: Favorite Drivers & Misc

I'm not entirely sure my answer to "favorite driver" is true because I really don't have one. I just anwered in another thread that I couldn't make up my mind, but I'll go way out on a limb here. I'm going to say...wait for it...wait for it...Jeff Gordon. He is hated by so many that I feel like I have to cut him some slack. He cut his teeth in open wheel, which I like. But the main reason is because of what I heard over the scanner at the rained out Pocono race in June. His car was junk, totally, especially the breaks, and we all know what cruddy brakes did to him last year at Pocono. But I did not hear him whine. What I heard was fear. Letarte had to really get on him to stay out on the track. He suddenly became very human at that moment. I gave him a lot of credit for racing hard and putting faith in his spotter and crew chief because he was not a happy camper.

I've been a fan since 1979, and I've only been to two tracks so far, Pocono (BORING) and Watkins Glen. (Can't see squat). We're aiming for Dover next year. My oldest friends call my Kate.

Re: Favorite Drivers & Misc

Forgot Busch and Trucks. Busch, newcomers Tim McCreadie and Bobby Santos. Trucks, Ron Hornaday, the master of restarts.
