I hope not. I'm none to thrilled with Newman right now. Thanks to the ineptness of one of his pit crew (overextending the air hose), Bowyer ran over debris and cost him a better chance at winning at Daytona a few weeks ago. Plus he just seems to be running into everybody. I don't hate him, I'm just very irritated by his performance lately.

As a side note .. when Newman leaves I believe the Altel sponsorship is done in NASCAR. Is that correct Bob or Ducky or anyone ???

not as long as they sponsor the same car .. the driver doesn't make a difference to the grandfathering. (that may be the first time I ever uttered the phrase "the driver doesn't make a difference"!)

The only way Penski lets Newman go is if Hornish chooses to race NASCAR full time. In that case Newman would go to Gibbs.

I belive your spot on there RD... I don't think Alltel has the same clause as BUD did with Jr that let's them out.

The sponsorship is with the team, not the driver. I don't know if Alltel's contract specifies Ryan as their designated driver or not. I doubt it.

As long as that team stays active, the ALLtel decals can remain, as far as I know.
