Great question my friend! It makes me think...

1. Daytona 500
2. World 600
3. The August night race at Bristol (They change the name too often for me to remember what it;s called)
4. The Brickyard 400

Note. The Southern 500 SHOULD take the place of the Bristol race but since it was given to that condo complex waiting to happen, out in Fontana where I don't even acknowledge that they hold a race on Labour Day, I don't include it.

Re: If NASCAR had Majors ....

So it looks as though everyone is picking important races ... why not a road course ??? It does present a totally different challenge.

would only be viable if:
  1. the race were at Riverside; and
  2. they expanded the number of Majors to 5 .. or 6 .. or......

Are you referring to the Talladega 500?

Re: If NASCAR had Majors ....

NASCAR did have majors and a career grand slam years ago. It was called the Winston Million and it consisted of four races drivers thought they HAD to win if they were to be considered the best ever.

They were:
1. The Daytona 500
2. The Talledega/Die Hard/Winston 500
3. The World 600
4. The Southern 500

If a driver won 3 of the 4, he recieved a million dollar paycheck that actually meant something to him. You may remember Million Dollar Bill Elliott winning it in '85 (hence the nickname). That was the only time it ever happened.

Winning all four of those races was/is considered a career grand slam. 7 drivers, Richard Petty, Bobby Alison, Darrel Waltrip, Buddy Baker, Dale Earnhardt, Jeff Gordon, and Jimmie Johnson, have won it. Mark Martin and Bobby Labonte can still do it even though the Southern 500 no longer exists. They need the Daytona 500.

If there were major today, they'd be the Daytona 500, the World 600, the Brickyard 400 and umm... uhh... well, whatever the 4th biggest race is.

Offically when the Winston million was going on only Bill Elliott and Jeff Gordon did it in the same year. Gordon did it twice.
