Yates Being Bought

Look for breaking news that Roberts Yates racing is being purchased outright by the Newman/Haas racing Team of the Champ car Circuit.

I just heard this but have no details as to if Robert and Doug willo stay involved, if drivers will change, etc., etc.

It's not supposed to be official unti (Q88 and Yates in partiuclar) "might" be slightly interested.

Other than it no longer being RYR how does everyone feel about this purchase and how will it effect the current teams ?

Would it help you ailing spirits if I were to tell you that next year the drivers might be Sebastion Bourdais and Gordon Rahal?

I haven't heard any such thing and seriously doubt if it's even been thought about. I just thought that I'd do my small part to make your day.

Sorry, but I don't see what the big deal about Yates is.He bought the team from Renier a 19 year owner and now Yates is a 19 year owner looking to get out.Wood Brothers a 54 year owner my have to leave, that hurts.Hell, the Petty's a 59 year owner have not won in a while and my have to sell part of the team to stay alive. That is a killer to me.

Along this same train of thought, I heard an interview with Bud Moore last week. He said, "I'd be interested in getting back into NASCAR if conditions were right."

Yeah, Petty, I know. Bud is a bit too old and its wishful thinking on his part. However, it makes me think, "Are the Ginn's, the Alan Meskin's and other ga-zillionaires who just want to hang out at the track and in the garage are these the Bud Moore's, the Junie Donlevey's and the Junior Johnsons's of today? If so, that makes my anticipation of watching the future NASCAR about on a par with my anticipation of getting a colonoscopy.

As much as I've always seen RYR as a foundational element within NASCAR, it's been over there for a number of years now. NOTHING they have tried has worked. The slow death has been painfull to watch. The quick "lead to the head" is probably best for all involved.

I respect Robert (Don't have the same respect for his boy, but that's another story)but time and Robert's resistance to change, has done a number on RYR.

One positive thing about it is that he's being bought, or merging with (?) a proven racing enthusiast. Paul newman has always been one of Hollywood's biggest performance types (For several years he drove a 61 VW convertible with a high performance Porsche engine in it.)

Carl Haas has owned SCCA, Can-AM, Winston Cup (Co-owned with Michael Kranfoos in the 90's and co-owned the cars driven by Jimmy Spencer and DW later), CART, and cars which have run well at Indy. He's defending two-time Champ Car Series champion owner.

I'd much rather see someone like this get involved in RYR than some bean-counter looking for a tax write off and a hobby.
