Newman~Haas Bids To Buy Yates

ST. LOUIS - Seven-time Champ Car champion owners Carl Haas and Paul Newman have offered to purchase Robert Yates Racing, sources told FOXSports.com. An announcement could come as early as Friday at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Haas currently runs the No. 14 CAH-PPC Ford in the Busch Series with Michael Lanigan, who became a partner on the Newman-Haas Champ Car operation earlier this season, and Mari Hulman George. Haas was most recently involved in NASCAR at the Cup level as Travis Carter's partner on the Nos. 26 and 66 in 2002.Newman/Haas/Lanigan Racing currently leads the Championship Point Standings with three-time champion Sebastian Bourdais who looks to win an unprecedented fourth title this season.
Robert Yates purchased the No. 28 from Harry Ranier in 1988. He expanded to two teams in 1995 with the No. 88 and Dale Jarrett. Yates won the championship with Jarrett in 1999. RYR currently runs two entries in the Nextel Cup Series with David Gilliland and Ricky Rudd, who are currently 27th and 30th in points, respectively. Stephen Leicht pilots Yates Busch's effort in the No. 90 Citifinancial Ford and is currently eighth in the standings.

Re: Newman~Haas Bids To Buy Yates

Being a Yates fan I really hate it that the team has pretty much went down hill since the loss of Davey in 1993. What was once a booming team is now a mere shadow of its former self.

Robert Yates has been under a lot of stress and even been in the hospital due to ulcer's.I think that he is going to or already has handed the shop reign's over to his son Doug .

I say this even as a fan of a Roush driver ,that being when Yates and Roush joined forces in the engine department I figured that BOTH team's would be very successful .Instead while Roush has thrived ,Yates now runs at the back of the pack

I pray that this will bring the team back to life.

I just heard this, Flip. No mention of the fate of either Robert or Doug. Apparently Doug's offices are over at Roush Racing (due to shared engine technology) but all phone calls goibg to Doug's office go directly into Voice Mail Hell. Maybe Doug doesn't want to be asked about this purposed deal until the check clears?

Newman?Haas has a car in Cup Lite with Kyle Krisaloff (I believe) driving. Maybe this will be his step up to Cup?

As\Alice said as she stepped through the looking glass, "Things just keep getting curiouser and curiouser."

makes you wonder if the Roush - Yates deal of engines for chassis will remain in effect...

I beg to differ on the downhill spiral after Davey. Yates was in the hunt for titles until 2000, that's when the decline began because he stayed with two teams and shuffled up the mix with crew chiefs. The loss of Davey definitely hurt the organization, however they stayed strong until 2000. JMHO

Robert was in the mix until two things happened:
(1) He put Doug Yates in a position that he wasn't suited for, and
(2) He lost Todd Parrott.

Davey was a horrible personal loss for Robert but Ernie put him back on the map in relatively short order.

Just MNSVHO.

I think this is good for Yates for the reason that Yates would be dead if they do something.

No offense, Bears but I think I'm going to need a translation for this one.

BTW, what neighborhood? I lived down around 55th and Ogden and then 183rd and Cicero.

first off i dont what your talking about. I estaturated what i said about Yates a bit butthey have two driver in the Cup series in 27th and 30th in the points and if they have a partnership they have more cash which means better drivers
