Re: DEI & Ginn

"In Bobby Ginn's defense, he bought a very deep hole when he got into racing. The organization was behind on paying its bills. But he was also his own worst enemy. He should have taken what was there — two Cup teams — and perfected them."

This is just a quote from here FOX Sports on MSN - NASCAR - Charting the Chase: Ginn over his head? where you can read the rest of the story. I mentioned on another board just last week ,that like MWR,Ginn bit off more than he should of at one time .

DEI adding Mark Martin to its driver roster

Dale Earnhardt Inc. is adding Mark Martin to its driver roster and growing immediately to four Nextel Cup teams in a merger with Ginn Racing that will be officially announced today, the Observer has learned. DEI and Ginn employees were told Tuesday that Martin's No. 01 team will compete under the DEI banner in this week's Allstate 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. As announced last week, Martin and newcomer Aric Almirola will share the No. 01 ride for the rest of the season. A source confirmed early Wednesday morning that Martin and Almirola will also share duties in the No. 01 in the 2008 season as planned. DEI is still negotiating with other drivers to replace Dale Earnhardt Jr., who is leaving the team at season's end.-- Charlotte Observer

DEI and Ginn working out details on switch

Sources said that over the next few weeks officials from DEI and Ginn Racing will work out details on which employees will be retained. Martin will use engines prepared by Hendrick Motorsports at Indianapolis, then switch to engines built by the new partnership between DEI and Richard Childress Racing in subsequent events. Ginn Racing had been leasing engines from Hendrick Motorsports. Also left unclear, for now, is the status of Ginn development drivers Jesus Hernandez, Kraig Kinser and Ricky Carmichael. -- Charlotte Observer

I seriously doubt it, Wing. When Junior was in the midst of making the switch, many (myself included) thought that Ginn was a player in the "Let's Buy Junior" game. I think this all started when (a) Junior chose who he did, and (b) Ginn's real estate ventures showed no sign of stopping their downward spiral. I don't think Ginn is anywhere close to going thru the wringer (Bankrupt); I just think he's finally taking a realistic look at the value of owner multiple Cup teams with disappearing sponsorship.

I'd say the Ginn going out of business sale didn't begin until the day it was known that Junior was going to Hendrick.

I think this was an opportunity that was too good to pass up: Teresa had all those DE souvenir, Menards and Bud bucks - Ginn needed a transfusion... what an easy way to become a 4 car shop with veterans in place! the only problem was which drivers to keep and how to manage the young guys. Ginn took the Menards ownership so he could keep them bucks close. and they still have a shot at Shrub!
I don't think DEI wants Junior back. Nothing against Junior (Statement made to placate the Red\Army), but the personal chemisrty between Teresa, Kelley and Junior did nothing to mkae DEI "Pleasantville." I honestly believe that that strange sound you might have heard the morning of Junior's press conference when he announced his new owner, that sound was a hughe sigh from Teresa, thinking "Finally! Next season I won't have to constantly fight with Kelley and Dale. Now we can get on with the business of running a race team."

From what I have heard the only reason that Ginn is named as co-owner of the #15 is so that the #15 can take the #14's points. That was a NASCAR rule.

Ginn did almost exactly the same mistakes that Alex Meskin did with his ill-fated attempt to be a Cup Lite owner a couple of years ago. Being wealthy is no guarantee that you'll automatically be an instant success in stock cars major leagues.

They could still pick Kyle up to drive the 8 car. And they said Martin and Almirola was still going to share driving duties in the 01 as planned.
