NASCAR drug testing?

The recent arrest of Craftsman Truck Series driver Aaron Fike on charges of heroin possession has brought new calls for NASCAR to toughen its drug-testing policies. Driver Kevin Harvick, who Sunday at Indianapolis Motor Speedway will try to win the Allstate 400 at the Brickyard for a second time, has been outspoken in favoring mandatory testing. "I believe every driver in every national series should be drug tested a couple times a year randomly, regardless of who you are," Harvick said recently. "I think we owe it to the sponsors and the fans to 100 percent know that this is a clean environment. Shame on NASCAR for not policing our garage better than what they police it now." Harvick's Richard Childress Racing teammate, Jeff Burton, said he doesn't believe a serious problem exists but "wishes NASCAR tested more" to remove any doubt. -- Indy Star

Re: NASCAR drug testing?

some things you do, not because you have a problem, but to keep from having a problem. with these kinds of issues it's always best to be offensive rather than defensive. I agree with Harvick & Burton.

Re: NASCAR drug testing?

I agree that they should. Maybe they don't have a big problem with it, but who knows, maybe it's bigger than they think. But the testing would help it not to become a big problem.

I think that says a lot if not all. When you are part of the limelight I think you need to accept responsibility.

Personal responsibility... LSC I can't believe you expect the younger drivers of today to accept personal responsibility. It's not apart of today's athletes unless written in their contracts..... Okay I'm stoppin before I get on my soap box

Personal responsibility is almost an extinct morale in today's society. Everyone has to blame somethin or someone for their actions to get around the fact that they screwed the pooch, or are just a plain dumba$$. It starts with the parents.... "It's not my fault my child is an inconsiderate moron, it's societies fault". just an example comes to mind.... when Dale Jr said sh!t on live tv. Now I'm not sayin he wasn't wrong for sayin it... but you have some jackass parent that's part of some organization that says they are gonna sue the tv station cause their child heard a bad word. First off, had it been me that heard that as a child, my dad would have looked at me and said that is an improper word and I better not ever hear you say it. This is the settin trend, instead of this jackass moron bein a parent he expects someone else to parent for him. With this action the child learns that if you don't like what you hear, complain about it and you'll get your way. Parents today expect society to teach their children. Well what do they see, those idiot movie stars who cry cause their life is so hard and that's why they did drugs or drove drunk. Give me a break. Kids today look at people like these that don't except personal responsibility and they follow the trend.

Crap, I need to quit rantin on topics like these.... Someone start a Gordon bashin thread so I can rant on that and feel better.

Now that's funny! It's actually been nice to discuss matters other than Gordon lately. Probably wont be long-lived.

I think drug testing is a good idea. As a matter of fact, I thought you couldn't race if you were taking "legal" prescription drugs. It can, and I stress "can", be a slippery slope. I know when I had my last drug test for a job, I had to list everything, and I mean everthing that I took. I forget which med it was, but one of them would produce a false-positive for something. Don't remember what that was either.

When/where would NASCAR perform the test? At the track? Anyone who is stupid enough to take drugs or even drink alcohol when they are working with or driving cars, ought to be banned from the sport, no questions asked! That's just plain crazy!

Why not prequalifying inspection... while the car goes through the line, the drivers go through a line and pi$$ into a machine.
