Good business: Earnhardt Jr. positions self for future ![]() The future licensing rights to Dale Earnhardt Jr. will be negotiated by Earnhardt Jr.'s own company, JR Motorsports, not Hendrick Motorsports, for whom he'll drive next season. It's yet another indication of the way the popular driver is maintaining control of his name and brand. Earnhardt Jr. will be the only NASCAR driver whose personal company controls the licensing of his team's merchandise and apparel. Jeff Gordon at one time had his own company that handled his team licensing, but that operation has since rolled into HG Licensing, a joint venture between Gordon and team owner Rick Hendrick. Earnhardt Jr.'s business model is similar to the one employed by his father late in his career. Earnhardt Sr.'s licensing went through his own company, Sports Image, not Richard Childress Racing, where he drove until his death in 2001. Good business: Earnhardt Jr. positions self for future

| Re: Good business: Earnhardt Jr. positions self for future Jr. went thru that long drawn out deal last year with Teresa to get the rights to his name back from DEI (where he put it at his dad's request.) seemed silly she balked at that, except for all the $$$ it was putting in her pocket!

Re: Good business: Earnhardt Jr. positions self for future And we all know daddy made a TON of money on his name and image! Actually, I'm sure DEI is still raking it in.

Re: Good business: Earnhardt Jr. positions self for future I think Sr is sorta like Elvis. He's probably worth more now than he was when he was alive.

Re: Good business: Earnhardt Jr. positions self for future The bad part about that is it's true. The day after his death a deck of cards of the Intimidator went from $12 to $50 on e-bay, not to mention all merchandise was jacked up... bunch of vultures

I have a Sr. chair. One of those canvas folding things that goes into a carrying bag that I bought at the track. I think I paid less than $50 for it. The day after Sr. died, it was on eBay for $250! I have a ton of Sr. stuff. I even have a limited edition porcelain doll. I wouldn't sell any of it. I bought this stuff because I'm a fan, not to make money someday.

Re: Good business: Earnhardt Jr. positions self for future A lot of his poor qualities have gotten lost in all the hype since his death also. I will agree that is a natural occurrence for anyone in that situation.
