Hornish to race NASCAR full time ?

NASCAR.com reports that IRL driver Sam Hornish Jr. is highly considering moving to NASCAR full time.Hornish drives the Bucsh series on IRL off-weeks.Hornish is still debating if he is ready to go from a 17 race IRL scheudle to a 36 race Sprint Cup series scheudle.Hornish would continue to drive for Penske racing. Is this a good move for Hornish? A good move Penske?

We've discussed this one. My take is that IF Hornish is ready to FULLY commit to Cup he'll probably be OK. But if he tries to run Cup full time, yet keep his toes in the water at IRL; run selected races, etc. like Paul Tracey tried to do with CART, Formula Indy, or what-the-Hell-ever they call the damn Series now, he'll fall flat on his face.

Sam's personable, articulate, and gives good interview. My advice is that IF he comes to Cup (which I believe he will next season) I hope Penske keeps his dad in check; the guys a little long in the tooth to be starting fights in the pits.

So you want him to race cup from full-time and no IRL race like Montoya rather than pick and choose which he wants to race in each week like John Andretti

Andretti isn't a full-time driver; he only picks up one-off rides, and he's only going to run one IRL race this season, the 500.

No comparison between my thoughts and John Andretti.

Not sure where you may have gotten the idea that Andretti picks and chooses NASCAR races. My guess is that he'd like to race full time ... anywhere.

probably because he can't get a full time ride. I think you really have missed the point on this one.

I saw that. What's up with that old fart? Entertaining as heck. But I don't think any Cup owner would be interested in that type of behavior.

Hornish senoir is an old fart. But he would stay with the same owner as he had in IRL

I would assume you're correct. Andretti seems to be trying to get back in full time. He will debut John Carter's #08 E&M Motorsports team in the Brickyard 400. I think he will run a few more races after that in '07 and then, with hopes of having sponsorship, go from there.

John lost his full time ride with Petty after the 2004 season. since then he's only been in 13 races until this season. he's back at Petty, part time, having filled the seat 4 times out of his 5 appearances this season...
