Should NASCAR start a Senior Circuit?

Probably a crazy idea, but would any of you like to see NASCAR someday start a senior circuit, like the senior tour in the PGA? The drivers could theoretically run shorter distances due to their advanced ages, and maybe a shorter schedule overall. Perhaps they could even race old-style cars under old-style rules? What do you think?

Would you like the address for NASCAR ??? It could be a good idea but ... my fear would be safety. What would happen to Jim Hylton if the car flipped and rolled a few times. He is now 73 years old. How would his reaction time be out there against some young punk like 66 year old Morgan Shepherd. I like the idea but there would have to be some real guidelines for safety implemented

Re: Should NASCAR start a Senior Circuit?

have to bring back some of the old crew folks and a few of the owners to go along with it.

but what would be great would be a pseudo race with each driver in a replica (or original if one exists) of the car they raced. strict rules like "no bump drafting" and "no fighting on the track - take it to the garage" and "winner buys the beer". then everyone (fans included) heads to the garage for autographs, pictures and bench racing...punctuated with a brew or two ('shine if ya got it - Pepsi/Coke/DP if ya don't )

I could go for that!

Re: Should NASCAR start a Senior Circuit?

Maybe we could borrow Tony's hearse and bring back some of the old time favorites for a run also.

In all seriousness it would be fun even if just once a year a selected group of retirees got out and ran a few laps in some cars that were a little less than the powerhouses of today. In a few years we could even get some father son combinations out there.

Re: Should NASCAR start a Senior Circuit?

No

Wanted inital thought on this posted first.

Then there's:

* The Geritol Cup
* I envisioned events similar to the commercial where Hamlin is racing through halls competing against seniors. "Geritol whackers"
* The Depends 400
* Large print pit signs

No

that sounds more like a senior MC run .. there's a group of guys on 3-wheelers over in Kerrville who clog up the local convenience store/deli/gas station/coffee shop by the interstate every morning. they don't use VISA either so everything sorta slows down when they come riding in.

hey LSC, I see you're getting a bit long in the tooth .. maybe slowed down a bit? are you a "codger" yet, like me? I'm finding it fun to be a big old rock in the current of life causing more than my share of ripples...

BTW, congrats on hitting the 7K mark.

Re: Should NASCAR start a Senior Circuit?

Noun1.codger - used affectionately to refer to an eccentric but amusing old man

Tough call Ducky. Been retired for over three years now but I was lucky enough (smart enough) to be able to do it in my 50's. All the pieces fell into place and when I told them I was leaving their response was "Oh you won't go". I'm gone !!! I enjoy my new life and am as busy now as I ever was but I do what I want, when I want, IF I want.

Thanks for the congrats. Didn't realize I hit the 7K mark. It's just a number. I'm here because I enjoy the conversation and the people.

Now about the senior circuit. I really see no reason why there couldn't be a 10 (pick your own number) race season for some of the retired seniors. With the proper restrictions in place it would be a great event. I think it would be just great to see these guys get out and attempt to be competitive but not have to fight with the young guns. Ya never know it could be something down the road.

if ya haven't reached codgerdom yet, yer definitely being condgerfied as we speak/type...

with all the "old" talent out there, I think I'd have to put my money on Mario .. 'course I could be 'suaded to go a different direction (with the proper number of brews, of course )
