Re: T. Labonte coming back....

yeah that exactly why he is in there, terry is a good driver, but toyota just isn't up to bar yet.

but with the brickyard being so specail owners will do anything to get thier car in, it's another race like daytona, it could be a deal breaker for the sponsor.
I do hope he atleast runs well.........no that it's to likely though

If it's good enough for other teams to do it, it's good enough for Mikey to do it too.

I like Terry too. I wouldn't mind if Mikey put him in the car the rest of this year. Would get to see Terry race, the 55 would make races, I'd be okay with that happening.

T. had 17 starts in 2006. cracked the top 20 twice: 17th at Daytona and 3rd at Sonoma; both in the DLP car. for 10 of the races he was in Hendrick equipment and yet his average finish was in the #44 was only 33.4. that 3rd on the road course was strictly from driving slow and conserving fuel - I liken it to being a moving pylon. this year he started 25th at Sonoma and finished 10 spots down in 35th. to help Mikey, he's gonna have to step it up a bunch! otherwise it's Indy, Watkins Glen <maybe> and 4 other races... I don't think that's what NAPA had in mind, but Mikey's desperate to get his sponsor some air time...

T.s time is past. I think Mikey is a much better qualifier than T. Mikey has only missed making the field by small fractions of seconds and had an exceptional effort taken away when it rained!

Re: T. Labonte coming back....

While emotionally it is great to see some of the great drivers return to the track I would once again offer my opinion that many of these greats are way past their prime and are only fooling themselves. The moving pylon is a great analogy but a sad one at the same time. I understand that NAPA wants the car in the race but it still isn't going to get much if any airtime.

But in reality, we rarely see them, at least on the tube. I watched most of the pre-race shows and the entire Infineon race, and never once actually saw Terry Labonte. I also can't recall seeing Bill Elliott this year, even though he jumped in for Schrader a few races ago. The sad fact is, only the chosen few REALLY get much air time these days.
As far as fooling themselves, they certainly arent fooling their bank accounts.

That's true. They do hardly ever show them. Which is why I get tired of watching some races. No matter where, say, Jr,Gordon,Johnson ( and a few others) are running, they always show ALOT of them. If they show Bill or Terry it's cause one of the chosen ones is passing them.
