| Well it looks like they are definitely makin room for the new kid next year. I hate to see this happen. If he hadn't lost so much after that crash at Kansas. NASCAR.COM - Smith to replace Marlin in No. 14 car at Indianapolis - Jul 17, 2007

Re: Marlin Replaced Yep, looks like the ole Silver Fish is winding down. Him and Kenny Schrader are/were very much alike in that, although they won only 14 or 15 races between them, they almost always ran up front. That is until Schrader was bumped out of his Hendrick ride by Ricky Craven and Marlin was squeezed out over time by a bunch of kids after his wreck. You can see easily that these guys are headed out. The worst part is unfortunately, there are new fans out there who don't know that those two ever won a race at all.

Re: Marlin Replaced UPDATE: Marty Snider reported on Sirius' The Morning Drive that he had talked to #13-Joe Nemechek Tuesday morning and additional information on the situation at Ginn Racing should be announce later today. David Poole reports that his source says #13-Joe Nemechek and #14-Sterling Marlin will not run at Indy. (7-17-2007) UPDATE 2: Regan Smith will replace Sterling Marlin in the #14 Chevy at Ginn Racing, starting with the Allstate 400 at Indianapolis, sources confirmed Tuesday. And Joe Nemechek could be out of a ride in the #13 Chevy for Bobby Ginn's team due to a lack of sponsorship. The team doesn't plan to run the car at Indianapolis unless a sponsor is found. Because the Allstate 400 is one of the biggest Nextel Cup events of the season, it's possible to get a one-off sponsor deal just for that race. If that happens, Ginn officials would race Nemechek in the #13. Marlin and Nemechek still are under contract at Ginn, but both drivers have been told they are free to look for opportunities elsewhere.(ESPN.com)(7-17-2007)

Schrader? Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't he the one who lost the tip of his thumb working on his car and raced anyway? I don't know why I remember that story. Craven? Being from New England, he was the Golden Child up here. What the heck happened to him?

Re: Marlin Replaced Along with many others I'm a bit sad to see Sterling being phased out but I'm also of the mind that many of these guys stay beyond their usefulness. Sterling is one of those boys. Like Bill Elliot after his accident years ago Sterling has become less of an aggressive driver. When they lose that edge they are done. If it isn't the accident then it is age that does them in. Far to many of them fail to see it because like all of us we hate to give up. When we quit we are admitting that we are old or that we have failed. Neither is one that we can admit to very easily. Time to move in more of the next generation.

Re: Marlin Replaced I remember Bill breaking his wrist. Didn't realize it had such an impact on his career.
