A report from ESPN NASCAR insider Marty Smith says that its very likely that Tony Stewart, Denny Hamlin and other racer for Gibbs will driving Toyotas.Gibbs believes that Toyota will be successfull in a year or two and Gibbs wants to be ahead of the curve. Big Deal or not?

Toyota will secure/land one of the (considered) top teams within the next 6-12 months. That's near a "take it to the bank". Waltrip will benefit from this, and he knew it all along. His deal was - "give us exposure/media attention/fan acknowledgement. He has done that. We are proof.

One has to believe that Toyota will offer tons of support and many to any major team that makes the switch. Time will tell. I have to also believe that the offer has been out there for anyone to make the switch.

So far. I'd have to think some of the teams struggling financially might be interested. Yates, perhaps?

well gibbs won championships in pontiac's in 2000 and 2002 and and then changed to chevrolet i believe in 2003, which was before pontiac left...

so gibbs will be fine, although i understand going from pontiac to chevy is a lot different than going from chevrolet to toyota...

And even more so since it's COT across the board for '08. I figure Toyo has to get a 1st tier team on board to have success and Gibbs wouldn't suprise me.

I was gonna bring up this point, you beat me to it....This rumor was going around until Junior became a free agent, then Gibbs denied it, but after they found out Junior signed with Hendrix, Gibbs said he has not been talking to Toyota, but only because he has to say that, until his current contract expires with chevy, because of a no negotiating clause in the contract, so in simple terms: If Gibbs resigns with Chevy in July or August then there they will be, but if they do not, they still cant admitt to negotiating with another manufacturer, but it will be clear that they will not be resigning with chevy....

It's all a moot point anyway since these cars are not made by the manufacturers. With the CoT, all you will be cheering for is a decal and an engine the average person cannot buy. Where's the "stock" in Stock Car Racing? They should change the S in Nascar to SPEC car racing.

I think you've got the facts wrong, and I hope I'm right about you being a 'new' fan, less than 5 years or so. 2003 sounds about right, But Gibbs didn't leave Pontiac, it was the other way around. Pontiac Motorsports announced mid season that they would be withdrawing from NASCAR competition midway thru the season. All the Pontiac teams had to find cars to race, some went to Dodge, and others went to Ford.
