Toyota Outspending Teams By "Large Margin"

Roush said before the season that Toyota will change the way every other team in the Nextel Cup garage conducts business, because of the alleged deep pockets of the manufacturer. "I don't know if they have an open checkbook," Dan Davis, director of Ford Racing Technology said this week. "If you go into the garage, we have a pretty good idea what a crew chief is getting paid, what a driver is getting paid, we know what sponsors are spending. We've got a lot of history in this. "When you see some of the things that they are getting done and the money invested ... we have a pretty good idea that they're outspending us by a large margin. We're not at that level. We're not spending at the level that we think they're spending."

Re: Toyota Outspending Teams By "Large Margin"

Toyota's got a lot of years of research and experience to learn in a very short time. I'm guessing that they're investing so much this year, because they haven't been around to invest it slowly over the past decade, and they're desperate not to be NASCAR's Tampa Bay Devil Rays. Whether it pays off next year or the year after, we'll see.

Re: Toyota Outspending Teams By "Large Margin"

Pretty much a crap article if ya read it closely. Says/provides nothing of substance regarding the actual comparative spending. Full of "we think", "what we believe", when quoting those making comment about the amount of spending.

The suggestion within the article that those making claims around how much Toyo is spending should open their own books so a real comparison could be made made sense. Would help end the discussion/speculation. We likely should not commit to holding our breath for this revelation.

If that happens, get ready to see Toyota up front on a regular basis.

I wouldn't mind Gibbs going to Toyota. But I think Toyota is going to do pretty good next year with or without a "big" name team.

gotta agree there.

also the memory cells think they captured a missive earlier this year stating GM was back-pedaling on "factory support" for the coming years. (wonder who was outspending who then?) Benz already cut Chrysler loose so they don't have any bucks. methinks Ford is the only other brand with a wallet that's still open, but it's not as fat as it once was...

Re: Toyota Outspending Teams By "Large Margin"

One thing I'd like to know is how Toyota is supposedly spending this money. It'd be wise of them to help out their under funded teams a little more because we all know what money can buy you in this sport. A more competitive race team and ultimately, even more money. Rick Hendrick can explain that.
