[Pepsi One]

Well since some of us were'nt alive during the Petty era, I figured I'd start a thread where some of you could share stories about the so called king, so some of us can better understand his legacy without looking at the stats! How many of you saw him race live, or on TV during its original airings! My favorite stat that I found was in 1972 Petty won 8 races, and in every single one of those wins Bobby Allison finished second!

Most folks who like their driver would just spend thier time giving us the merits of their fave, but you persist in ripping a legend.

What a tribue to the present day fan, of all sports. No respect for the sporsts heritage, or rich history. Just root for one person, and try to prove all others were crap!

I hope you wasted a lot of time looking up all your stats!

your opinion doesn't matter to me, you defend the so called king by calling my arrogant, not once have you provided and defence only that he is who he is, which isn't good enough for me, I need proof! I respect any of these drivers that put on that suit, and drive on Sunday. Or Friday and Saturday, for that matter. I don't like Dale Sr, but would never debate any of his accomplishments. To do so degrades the history of this sport, to which he is so closely tied to.

Not a Gordon fan either, too bland for me. But an awesome talent, and he is ripped way too much, just for being a good person and a great driver.

I don't need to try and talk about why these drivers stats and accomplishments don't matter. Clearly they do. And it is just as clear you have nothing to offer us here but your poison.

I have offered you nothing, simply because you offer nothing to start with, other than sarcasm and, seemingly, disdain.

I love this sport too much to continue any further talk with you, or of you.

I'm sure you will just tell yourself I was so baffled by the Stats and brilliance you bring to the table to carry on, but we both know that is wrong.

You provide nothing because you have nothing to provide, the thread was tell a story about Petty and you couldn't even do that, so i take what you say with a grain of salt and a table spoon of lemon pepper!

Jeff Gordon always and with clear reverance, refers to him as "King" often extolling his accomplishments with the wonderment they deserve and the respect he (Jeff) knows has been earned. But what does Jeff know.

I'm not saying he shouldn't be called the King. After all, people far more worthy than any of us gave him that knickname. Who are we to take it away? I'm just desperately trying to turn this into a positive thread and keep it from being a squabbling session that gets shut down. So, anyone have any Petty stories to share or not?

I've never seen him race live, I've only watched him on tv. I think he's the best, not just because of how many wins he has, but for what he has done for the sport.
