I haven't really figured out the points and all, I've never paid attention to them. I didn't know if they took the points or what. Makes alot more sense for Hendrick to leave him in the 5 car the rest of this year. I know he probably hates giving Kyle a chance at it, but at the same time he wouldn't want to take the teams chance away after they have all worked so hard this year.

once the chase starts the top 12 are locked in they can't finish any worse than 12th, does that include owner points ??? if it does(I think so ) he could park shrub after richmond and put any body in the 5 with out a worry.
I don't think the 5 will be allowed to compete with the 24/48 for the title, if shrub won the title who'd look like an a$$ ???

as I said, driver points and owner points are completely different. there's no "Chase" for owner points. when the Chase starts points are still awarded the same way to both drivers and owners, it's just the Chase drivers' point levels are artificially set at a specific mark based on their accomplishments to that point.

yes, Rick could park Shrub, but he'd probably get a very large multi $million lawsuit slapped on him for "conspiring to deny ability to work and earn income" if he made Shrub sit out those 10 races without releasing him.

Rick wants to come out smelling like the proverbial rose on this which means he has to take the high road (something a bit uncommon for him when dealing with departing drivers). ya just know it's eating him up to have to rein in his impulses and control his temper. and I don't think he's ever had to deal with this type of loose cannon before...a spoiled teenager with proven superior talent and potential.

bottom line, anything Rick does will hit the HMS wallet. as I said, it's cheaper to turn Shrub loose in the 5 car with a babysitter than any other scenario, as galling as that may be to himself, the other HMS teams and their fans.

I don't think the sponsor of the 5 would be to thrilled if he made him sit the races out either. And regardless of what Hendrick may want to do, I think the sponsor ends up calling most of the shots. After all they are the ones paying the millions, and it would seem like he wouldn't want to pi$$ them off.
