Hamlin, Stewart Kiss And Makeup

With the tight Nextel Cup and Busch Series schedules this weekend at Chicagoland Speedway, Joe Gibbs Racing teammates Tony Stewart and Denny Hamlin picked an interesting time to bury the hatchet over last weekend’s crash during the Pepsi 400.

Midway through the final Cup “Happy Hour” practice session for tomorrow’s USG Sheetrock 400, Stewart dashed into Hamlin’s transporter for a 15-minute meeting to hash out any lingering issues from Daytona. Both drivers emerged from the meeting smiling.
“We just came to the realization that he’s wrong in a lot of areas and I’m wrong in some areas,” Hamlin said prior to driver introductions for Saturday’s USG Durarock 300 NASCAR Busch Series race at Chicagoland Speedway.
“It’s just we’ve got to be good teammates on race day. We need to work through our differences and I think basically did.”

Hamlin said the disagreements between the two began prior to Daytona. “He thought there were a lot of things that led up to it that kind of set him off and I questioned him,” Hamlin said of Stewart. “The end result is we got it all solved and resolved and I think we’re probably going to be better teammates than we were before.”

A representative for Stewart said the driver would not comment prior to the Busch race, which both Stewart and Hamlin were entered in.

Nice to see Hamlin's back bone dissappear when it counts, "i questioned him"....what a putz! What would Waltrip have said if TS was his teammate back in the day and TS did the same thing!

Hamlin showed alot of maturity. Interesting how a 2nd year driver is more mature than a 9 year driver.

That is just Tony being who is he. He will never really change. One days attitude may be different, but it will always return to the way it normally is.

Man, you guys are so tough on Tony. I know. I know. I'm gonna get heat for this.

Yes, his comments at Daytona were out of line. Hamlin was without a doubt the more respectful of the two.

Nature of the sport to be hot-headed at times. It is very rare that a driver says "I f'd up" in the heat of the moment. I've never seen Tony throw a punch at another driver, nor have I seen him dive onto Pit Road like Busch did. I'll never forget that stunt!

If Tony has thrown a punch, don't all go ganging up on me! I haven't seen it ... not that I remember anyway. I wasn't always a Tony fan, but he seems to have his rebel years behind him. He's got an itty-bitty Chihuahua! How mean can the guy really be?

I will kind of agree with you. The media shoves the mic in front of Tony, and he is not ready to be interviewed at that time. They should wait for Tony to cool off, then interview him. Tony is a very funny person, but when the media shoves the mic in front of him after something happens involving him, he will say some outrageous things. Hours later, his opinions change dramatically.

I agree with this. The media should have to wait before interviewing them at times. If they were in a wreck or something like that, the media should have to wait. Everybody saids stuff when they are upset that maybe they wouldn't if they had time to calm down some. Tony just seems to do it alot more than others.

I don't see them in football, when a player gets messed up, go running and sticking a mic in his face asking what happened.

he still needs to control his temper. You always see drivers fuming about other drivers but they keep their cool and don't say stuff that they will really regret.

It was clear No one was hurt in the crash, but it was clear Stewart and Hamlin just lost a race, much like when Manning loses after a game and the media sticks a mic in his face and he throws his O-line under the bus....its just like that!

True, and I am not defending Tony at all. I don't "really" know what happened on the track, but Tony should have just walked away like he's done in the past. Go hide in the trailer.

Put it this way: Who hasn't experienced road rage? What would they say if someone put a mic in front of them moments after the incident? Let me be the first to admit that the impression people would get of me at that moment would have nothing to do with my true character.
