Observation: most folks we know that have been directly involved in racing (drivers, mechancis, owners, officials, etc.) look for more/something different than the casual fan, the lesser informed/involved, from cinamatic efforts/presentations.

They (those having been directly involved) are less able to separate themselves (personal indictment) from the reality they have come to know. They (I) tend to want humor that is "real" from/in the context of what they have directly experienced at the track. There is a lot of "humor" in the reality of racing. I'd venture Racer Duck can relate and even begin to laugh at some memories this comment would re-fire. Unfortunately, "real" race humor would/could not reach the audience necessary to make a film/movie a "success" amongst the general viewing audience. We sat with folks that did not have an iota of knowledge with motorsports. Watched them laugh histerically at things that left us blank.

Did we ever see a "racing movie" we fully enjoyed. No. Of true crap were - "The Ballad of Ricky Bobby", then there was that that absolute crap pot thing Stallone did, and yes, even "Days of Thunder" (Although there were some snippets of Days that were close).

Holy Crap, where am I going with this. Nowhere - hope ya enjoyed the ride.
It wouldn't have made any difference if the movie was about soccer, figure skating or any other sport. It was just BAD.

I think that's the reason Gordon got the award.... rednecks( atleast the majority) didn't have access to computers at the time of the vote. All those California yuppies from San Francisco got him the award

Old School, Figure Skating, the elf flick. You name it I'll rate it 1/2 star out of 10. I did like hi on SNL as the skits were about 5 minutes in length and he was OK in those, but the movies .... thumbs down.

Re: Gordon, 'Talladega Nights' Win ESPYs

The fact that NASCAR was promoting such a stupid movie as Taladega Nights just proves that they don't care about anything other than trying to get the fan base with money to spend.

Ferrell was so-so in Elf. However, this Talladega... piece of crap...?

I have honestly tried twice to watch it all the way through and both times it proved more than I could take. This piece of garbage makes Days of Thunder look like a genuine film epic!

But then I have never found anything remotely funny about stupidity and dysfunction, so I viewed it with an extremely jaundiced eye.

Will Ferrell is like Jim Carey. You have to take them for what they do. I find both silly, but there's something that draws me to watch Jim Carey. Ferrell, not so much. I haven't seen Talladega Nights, so I can't speak to that.

Days of Thunder ... hmmm ... I have to say I like that movie. And I stress movie! I thought it was an interesting rivalry story but I in no way think it came even close to the reality of NASCAR. If any driver behaved the way these drivers did on the track, they'd be banned from the sport. I did like how they had "real" footage of "real" drivers interspersed throughout the movie. I can even spot that ol' black #3.

I don't think there will ever be a movie worth mention about any type of racing. I haven't seen it yet. Not even 3. Dale? I don't know. I guess that's more of a documentary, so I don't think that counts.

NASCAR and the ESPYs were reaching!
