| Re: Lead Vs. Lapped Cars let me predicate my answer with this bit of track-wise wisdom: you will be driven how you drive others. if I'm being lapped, there's two possible scenarios: 1) I'm all alone, not racing another car - I hold my line at the bottom of the track, maybe even slowing slightly to minimize the leader's "passing" time; 2) I'm racing another car for position - if I'm the "challenger and haven't made much headway, revert to 1 above, however, if I'm almost there, I'll continue racing .. the leaders will just have to wait. if I'm the leader: if the car blocks me twice then I knock on his door (bumper) and let him know 3rd time and he's gone .. his fate is in his hands; if he's racing for a spot, I watch for an opening to squeak by; otherwise I watch to see where he's signaling me to go and get it done as quickly as possible. after the race I will make it a point to thank the drivers that drove me clean and will "discuss" the ramifications of blocking the leader with those who blocked.

| Re: Lead Vs. Lapped Cars The guy is a great driver, he just needs to respect everyone out ON the racetrack. I know some people who jus don't like the fact that someone from columbia is racing in nascar. Not me, I don't like him because he is too agressive and is doing too musch bumping during the race. I forget what race but he took his own teammate out. |

| Re: Lead Vs. Lapped Cars Racer Duck quote - "you will be driven how you drive others" Yup. It is the "do unto others" thing. And your exact actions, while being situational, will lack for the obvious stupid. And it is the way / in the heart/mind of the vast majority of experienced racers/drivers (there are lesser beings in all walks of life - unfortunately). Been around enough of 'em to know. |

| Re: Lead Vs. Lapped Cars Exactly, RD. So if a lap car is blocking me as the leader, I won't appreciate it one bit. One time he will be in this position and I will be a lap down, and I will return the favor and block him. That's why as a lap down car, you race the leaders with respect and let them go on and race. |

| Re: Lead Vs. Lapped Cars Far to many variables to this question for a mere mortal such as myself ... but that never stopped me from giving an opinion before. Two words jumped out as I was reading this thread. RACING and SITUATIONAL. All 43 cars on the track came there to race and race they should. If I am a lap down and the race leader is on my bumper one of the things I'd want to know is what my lap times are versus his. If they are the same then I'm gonna make you race me. If I'm slower then the word situational comes into play. If and when the situation was opposite what happened ?? If he let me pass him then I'll give serious consideration to letting him by. If he didn't then I may just make him work to pass me. He's already in the lead and by going by me does not improve his position but does lower my ability to have a higher finish. Is it my team mate behind me ??? If you've seen my posts you know I dislike the crash & pass style of driving. If I were behind you and a wee bit faster but maybe not fast enough to be able to get the job done before the checkered flag, I might touch your bumper on the straight, but never on the corners. Bumping in the corners only leads to what happened to Tony and Denny this past week. That was fruitless for both of them not matter who was at fault. Once again I believe there are several variables that need to be considered at the exact moment. It's easy to sit here and amke a statement but at 150 MPH you don't always have the luxury of 2 minutes to think about what you wanna do.

Picture this ... "Hey, Mr. Crew Chief. How's my speed versus the leader?" Let's see ... has the leader let me pass him before? He has? Ok. I guess I'll let him by. He hasn't? Ok. Suffer! He can work his way around me. Hard to contemplate all that in a few seconds! Way to complicate things and take the spontaneity out of it all ...
