Tailgating or Not?

in this article on NASCAR.com NASCAR.COM - Art of tailgating: NASCAR fans great with the grill - Jul 8, 2007 there's a statement from Simmons National Consumer Survey that I'd like to test. I'm pretty sure it is true, but since we have a good cross section of NASCAR "fans" on this forum, I thought it'd be interesting to see just how we stack up against this survey group's results.

since the survey results compares NASCAR fans against non-fans, please let us know if you have family or friends who fall into the non-fans catagory and how they would score. don't tell us who they are, only the number of people and the score for each.

Re: Tailgating or Not?

I'll go first.

Yes, all 3.

but in my circle of family and friends I can't think or any who don't or never have done all 3, though they're not all NASCAR fans.

I won't presume to count myself as a friend, but as an acquaintance, you have one who checked only the first selection.

We own a grill but about the only time we use it is during hurricanes.

Neither I nor She-Who-Must-Be-Obeyed, are campers. If we stay in anything less than Holiday Inn or AmeriSuites, we consider ourselves "roughing it."

Tailgating... Never really saw the purpose in it. I always figured that was why The Almighty invented restaurants.

Not a thing in the world wrong with any of your selections, mind you. They are all just something we don't personally do. We did used to do some backyard BBQ-ing but when we got our new kitchen appliances, the range does everything the charcoal-powered BBQ-er'll do, but in A/C comfort and less insects. We are what is commonly called, "wimps."

just a formality waiting for the requisite hand-shake to take place. however, for the purpose of this poll, GTG'ers are not counted as either.

there's nothing more irritating than fighting the insects while trying to cook up a tasty dish, then having them walk all over your food with their dirty little feet before you get a chance to taste it.

some friends and I happened on a piece of trivia one evening while being attacked by flies in Ft. Clark Springs (just outside Bracketville where John Wayne's "Alamo" was filmed) where we were "camping" in our fully equipped travel trailers: upon finishing an ear of corn, my friend threw the cob over to the side of the campfire ring .. about 10 ft away from us. within 30 seconds we had no flies around us but could hardly see the cob it was so covered with the little rascals. from that day on, we always try to have at least one corn cob ready to distract flies away from our festivities.

unfortunately, we have yet to discover the magic nectar that attracts mosquitoes away from us, but have found several things not to do to lessen our becoming an object of their affection: no after shave or hair spray, don't shower before going outside during "mosquito time" and make sure you always have that one person who seems to get bit first and the most often on your guest list as your sacrifice to the mosquito god....

Gor for the trifecta..... along with the sacrifice to the mosquito gods... add the the OFF Citronella candle(or lamps), with a couple of Ticki Torches.

As far as grilling.... Anytime I go to any of her families places, I have to man the grill or I guess it would be "Chosen" to man the grill. I don't mind I like the smell of a charcoal grill. mmmmmm.... I think I'll fire mine up when I get home from class tonight.
