Re: Truck Series' Fike arrested With heroin Well the point of my post was has NASCAR tested him yet. I have no personal experiance thank goodness, but I think that stuff stays in your system for awhile. I just think NASCAR should have tested him first before the suspension.

Re: Truck Series' Fike arrested With heroin I was watching ESPN's NASCAR Now show (which is terrible, but hey, I have nothing to do with a night off) and saw Jack Sprague really come down on Fike. He said it perfect too, this kid "had the golden spoon in his hand (no pun intended, I'm sure) and he dropped it." Guys like Sprague, Skinner and Hornaday came into this sport in a very difficult way, and here this kid basically got a free pass from someone with good equipment. Sprague also said "life isn't that bad where you need to do things like this." I completely agree. I don't understand what makes somebody do these things. It's obvious Fike wasn't paying any attention to Shane Hmiel and Kevin Grubb.

| Re: Truck Series' Fike arrested With heroin Let's see... You take a very young kid, many of whom have parents who are using their kid's driving talents as their "Golden Parachute," and retirement plans. Hook these kids up with team owners who are constantly looking for the next Jeff Gordon. These owners put them in superior machinery, sign them to contract and almost immediately they start earning money in quantities the majority of Americans only dream about. Without a well-grounded sense of values what do you have? A kid who thinks money and material things is the answer to every problem in the universe. One only has to look at the moral casualty rate in other sports to see the affect instant and early wealth has on people with a juvenile mind. My prediction is that we've seen only the tip of this iceberg. But, here's one I've yet to see or hear anyone mention: My bet is that drugs are a much bigger problem with the crews!? I'd go so far as to believe that, on any given race day, 10% of the crew and probably two or three drivers, would test positive for steroid use. Many of these guys are obsessed with physical stamina and abilities. I don't know about the rest of you but my visits to the gym and being around a bunch of younger muscle factory-types, I've found steroid-type of enhancements, both OTC and quasi-legal, are about as available as hookers at a Las Vegas convention. It's been proven that anabolic steroid use can be downright dangerous and can cause extreme personality changes. Just what NASCAR needs, eh? Especially on the track. Roid-rage at 180 MPH, or a good old bar room brawl in the pits by rival crews? I would suggest that NASCAR start checking for steroid use, if they haven't already. (Maybe they have and it just hasn't been publicized) If they haven't I think it's needed because many think steroid use is not really drug use and it gets a wink and nudge reception. Just my thoughts on the matter...

Re: Truck Series' Fike arrested With heroin Well hey, that's exactly what Brian France wanted, isn't it? He's made no secret of the fact that he wants NASCAR to be right beside all other pro sports, and this is just another step towards his goal. I'm sure he feels pretty good right now.

Re: Truck Series' Fike arrested With heroin Dustin... Your above, Wilks' and some others are perfect examples of why some mistake our comments IRT NA$CAR. They believe that we actually hate it. They, of course, are 180 degrees off; it's not that we hate NASCAR, it's just that we love it so much we hurt when we see the direction it's going and we vocalize our displeasure.

Re: Truck Series' Fike arrested With heroin Like any psyciatrist would say, letting people know it's there is the best way to get rid of it. Of course most people feel more comfortable talking to Jim Beam.

Re: Truck Series' Fike arrested With heroin Bob I agree with you in that drug use may be a problem more with the crew members. After all week after week you constantly hear the drivers say how hard the teams work. It sometimes sounds like these guys work 24 hours a day. I wouldn't be suprised that with this pressure to keep up that some of them would be temped to do drugs to keep up the pace. I would like to think that NASCAR is doing a more through job than we know about the testing of everyone. Its just that these last incidents have brought out into the open that NASCAR is not immune to the drug problem. But they have shown they have no intention of dilly dallying around like other sports do.
