Its being rumored on another sight that the France family is considering swapping the Daytona 500 and Homestead. What do you think of the idea...personally I've always wanted to see this happen, three drivers side by side to the finish for the championship....the only problem i see is celebrating the champion and the 500 winner on the same day, as we all know the 500 champ carries alot of prestige, but would be over shadowed by the celebration of a champion!

I'm adding a poll question to this thread.

Question is would you like seeing the Daytona 500 as the last race of the season and having the Homestead race the first race of the season ??

Obviously the 500 winner and the series champion would have to share in the glory.

I would rather see the July Daytona race moved to the finale, sort-of a bookend to the season....

Need to add some form of "doesn't matter", "don't care one way or the other".

With regards to whether NASCAR would consider doing - seems present schedule has potential for two really big money dates and the swap may have an opposite impact (relative to revenue potential). Tends to make me think they'd not do this.

On the other hand, it may be pleasing to the "stick and ball" gang that likes the grand finale for the championship. Of course then there's no guarantee the last race would be the championship deciding event anyway --- but not sure that gang can really get their mind around that.

Kinda like the "seperate-ness" that exists today for bunch of reasons. So the vote here was to leave it alone. If it ain't broke --

That's where I have an issue. The Daytona 500 and the Winston Cup are the two most celebrated victories in the sport. Unless the 500 winner and the champion are the same, there is no way it could be pulled off. Your pretty much throwing the Daytona 500 tradition out the window because someone gets their thunder stolen no matter what you do. Of course, you can count on Brian France to be the one that throws tradition away. Depending on what you envision, it could initially seem like the money gobbling super-event that France seems to be looking for, that's what has me worried.

Speaking for tradition as always, I say no.

I think you could take the Lowes race and move it to the first event of the season, and do the weeklong thing like they do with Daytona, I mean it would be circled by the "home" of nascar and the new HOF museum...You could even do each years inductions the week of the race!

Leave it to NASCAR to figure out how to screw up what's working instead of working to fix what they have screwed up. Take your choice where to start, top 35, chase, lucky dog, etc. etc.

Season has to start with a bang.... Wouldn't happen to well at homestead.
