| Re: Season Finale! The Daytona 500? I agree with this. Run the Daytona to kick off the season - it's always a big celebration, like MLB Opening Day. Then maybe run the Pepsi 400 or whatever you want to call it as the grand finale. Makes more sense than toying around with the Great American Race, at least to me.

| Re: Season Finale! The Daytona 500? Wow! Somebody finally had to bring this up. This is a subject I've been debating with myself since I was a kid. Every other sport has their 'Premier Event' at the END of their season; Super Bowl, World Series etc. Only NA$CAR OPENS their season with their biigest show. I definitely agree with Q. An opener at Homestead would be kinda lame. I SORTA like suedon's idea of 'bookending'. But then again I can't argue with BBW about somebody 'getting lost in the shuffle'. Would it be the race winner or the series winner? I didn't vote and I don't think I can. UNCLE!!! I GIVE!!

| Re: Season Finale! The Daytona 500? I'm gonna hurl! With all the other "issues" this season has brought to light, why on earth would NASCAR even consider messing with a good thing: The Daytona 500? NASCAR should focus more on the how to correct what they've done to the sport recently than to make even more ignorant decisions. They'd be better off ditching the "Chase" than messing with the opening race, which to me, is the best race of all! Hmmmm ... let's see ... the Indy Series and Indy 500 ... let's mess with that, too! Ooops! They already did ... and I no longer care or watch! I'm SO annoyed!

| Re: Season Finale! The Daytona 500? how do I un-vote? I've changed my mind. leave the Daytona 500 alone .. there's a lot of $$$ going to central Fla during Speed Weeks, not just the 500. moving it would kill a spectacular start for the whole stock car racing season. I kinda like the idea of the Pepsi 400 for the 4th. there's always been a 4th of July race in NASCAR, and it's always been at Daytona. (the race was actually on the 4th until 1994 when they moved it to the closest weekend.) however, I also like the idea of a "big todo" race at the end of the season. Homestead is pretty vanilla... I think Humpy & crew would do a bang-up job in Charlotte. that would be my vote.

| Re: Season Finale! The Daytona 500? I voted leave it the way it is for one very simple reason. The 500 winner would be overshadowed by the Cup winner. No matter what race it is, Na$car cannot really call any of them a "Super Bowl" with 43 cars competing. If they want a real Super Bowl of Nascar, it should be a 100 lap shootout with the top 20 at say.............Richmond, under the lights. |

| Re: Season Finale! The Daytona 500? And may I add this ... How many championships in recent years have actually come down to the final race winner? Moving the Daytona 500 to the end of the season doesn't mean for a more exciting race for the championship. First and second-place drivers racing for the win in the final race AND first and second place in the championship is not something I've seen. Perhaps I missed it. There have been several season-enders that determined who would be champion, but it wasn't two drivers racing for the win of the race and the championship. Typically, the championship is locked in long before the last lap of the last race of the season ... no matter what track the finale is run on. Sorry to say, unless Jeffeypoo has a serious string of bad luck and another driver has a serious string of good luck and wins, Jeffeypoo's got it this year. That's the issue. Moving the Daytona 500 wouldn't change that. |

| Re: Season Finale! The Daytona 500? NASCAR has stated that this isn't going to happen. Right after this was brought up on SIRIUS' "Driver's Seat" show with John Kernan and Terry Cook, a "shirt" from NASCAR and stated emphatically that this was a figment of some writer's imagination. Personally, I'd rather see them swap Miami and the Firecracker's date. Start with the 500 and end with the 400. The Daytona 500 is, after all, a NASCAR tradition and we all know NASCAR holds traditions, such as racing stock-appearing cars, North Wilksboro, Rockingham and The Southern 500 at Darlington as absolutely sacred and never to be tampered with, right?

so then what have the 600 in feb? or have the 500 in charlotte in feb and the 600 in may, bad idea... plus no way NASCAR will put the daytona 500, their biggest "game", up against the NFL... even if you do it on saturday, too many NASCAR fans like big time college football in the south, it is just a bad idea on all fronts... |
