Smile Toyota in NASCAR

Blaney wins pole at New Hampshire: #22-Dave Blaney won the Budweiser Pole for the Lenox Industrial Tools 300 at New Hampshire International Speedway with a speed of 129.437mph for his 2nd career pole and the first pole for Toyota in Nextel Cup. #2-Kurt Busch qualified 2nd with the rest of the top-10: #41-Sorenson, #70-Sauter, #42-Montoya, #8-Earnhardt Jr., #29-Harvick, #24-Gordon, #1-Truex, Jr., and #48-Johnson. The non-top 35 teams that made the race were: #22-Blaney, #00-Reutimann, #4-Burton, #83-Vickers, #36-Mayfield, #15-Menard, #21-Elliott, and #37-Lepage. See the qualifying results below.(6-29-2007)

Now this is news, Blaney 37th in points, this is a surprise.

Re: Toyota in NASCAR

Pleased we are for Mr. Blaney. From the go we expected he, more than any other Toyo pilot, would start showing up towards the front. He did, but has had a number of unfortunate on track/race "events".

Had we thought about what may be his position in points at this point in the season, would have speculated something higher that 37th. So indeed it might be labeled a bit of a "surprise".

That he was first Toyo to grab a pole - not surprised. And with the new car on a drivers track - even less suprising.

Hope the race goes well for him.

For Dave's sake (for my money he's one of the most under rated drivers in Cup now) and for Bill and Gale Davis' sake. Since getting one of the biggest shafts in NASCAR history in 1993, they "deserve" (term used advisedly) a series of good fortunes.

Violent agreement on that (Blaney).

Going blank on the Davis thing ya mention. Will visit some history to see if we can fire off a brain cell.

Actually it was 1992. Look under: Jeff Gordon signs with Rick Hendrick.

Bob,I am not a Gordon or Hendrick fan but I call it as I saw it.Bill Davis nor Ford had Jeff under contract= stupid of both. What would you do as a new driver?Hendrick pulled the trigger first and shot both Davis and Ford in the a$$.

Petty, this is a subject which raises its fugly head every few months (mostly because of a stand I take on the subject of ethics and character), and we've pulverized this matter into atom-sized particles.
My stance is: (a) Davis and Jeff had a handshake agreement. A person's promise is inviolate.
(b) Hendrick approached Jeff behind Davis' back and bribed him away from Bill and Gale with a more lucrative offer.
(c) Jeff never gave Davis nor Ford a chance to meet or better Hendrick's offer. Davis literally found out he had lost Gordon for the future on Charlotte's 6:00 news.

My personal position on this matter (and I underline "my personal") is (a) a man is only as good as his word. Lack of being as good as your word is a major character flaw. IMNSVHO character and ethical behavior ARE NOT situational. I heard the agrument that "Jeff was just a kid!" No matter, he was playing in a grownup's world and his decision to vacate his promise to Davis and Ford had devastating effects.
(b) A man who goes behind another man's back and steals an emploee is no better than a thief and a Federal Court has proved this description aptly fits Rick Hendrick.

Should Davis have locked in Jeff by written contract? In hindsight, sure. However, if you shake a man's hand but still are unable to trust him, what good is a contract? Ask Roush/Kurt Busch and Ganassi/McMurray. Or Hendrick/Kyle Busch.

I repeat: In my eyes, CHARACTER, ETHICS, AND PERSON HONOR ARE NOT SITUATIONAL!

I know this train of thought is foreign to some here and it is my personal feeling that this is a sad commentary on today's society.

...and that, my friend, is all I have to say on the matter.

My stance,I was not there to see and here this handshake agreement, were you?Business is hard, agree?I would say that Jeff felt if Bill or Ford had wanted him they would have made a move first.Nothing like being rewarded by your employer for a job well done when others can see your assets.

Nothing like being rewarded by your employer for a job well done when others can see your assets - Is that from the Union Plumbers Handbook?

All I can tell you is I think Jeff Gordon made the right decision for Jeff Gordon.
