Fuel cell, safety and COT body cheating gets the offending car taken, plus the usual fines and point deductions. As you point out, the back up had better be squeaky clean or it goes home. Then in a pre-determined number of following races, the teams don't get practice time nor the chance to qualify. The first time their car see the track is when it's pushed on the grid. If THAT car fails inspection the way the car that got taken did then...??? There is obviously a crew chief/team manager who is costing some team owner a lot of money and some sponsor a lot of negative publicity. Then I would sincerely hope, that matters take care of themselves.

That make it any clearer?
much.

but I don't understand why not a penalty for the backup failing... it seems to me a CC would want to have the backup be either with "innovations" installed or an "old reliable".. so why not make the former choice an extremely painful option?

Very clear Bob but correct me if I'm wrong. You are saying that for a predetermined number of races I bring my car and cannot practice or qualify ??? What about the possibility that my car is illegal ? I assume I'm just not understanding that there would still be the inspection requirement ?? Even if it does get inspected it somewhat goes against your thought about a non-qualifying car getting into the race while one that does qualify, but not fast enough, goes home. I'm thinking that the penalties might be somewhat different if yo are in the chase at the time of the infraction. Points lost towards the actual chase would be more of a determent than just the normal scoring points. I have to believe that if the 100 point loss took away the 40 bonus points along with 60 normal points,it might have a larger impact.

That's why I make it a point to have friends smarter than I.

Normal inspection then stay off the track until qualification. How's that? No practice, no tweaking, no nothing until the car gets the green flag for its qualifying run.

One thing Darby said in his radio interview (he ended the interview with this and I really like it, as I'm sure you and a lot of others here will like it also) "NASCAR is considering taking away the top 35 privilege and making offenders have to qualify on speed." This, coupled with the penalty I propose, might get someones attention?

way to go Darby! if I understand him correctly, one of the penalties that goes with flunking the inspection is loss of "chosen" status for that race. while it doesn't completely do away with the "chosen", it forces cheaters to think a little harder about the ramifications of being caught. 'course, when's the last time you saw top team car not capable of making the race on speed - besides Everham, that is?

Re: Penalties May Be The Same ...

How about NASCAR just says give us back our number since it really is ours. No number ... no race !!!

I know ... it's to simple.
