| Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson's Penalities DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- NASCAR has issued penalties and fines to the No. 24 and No. 48 Hendrick Motorsports teams that compete in the Nextel Cup Series, as a result of rule infractions found this past weekend at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, Calif. Both cars -- the No. 24 driven by Jeff Gordon and the No. 48 driven by Jimmie Johnson -- were found to be in violation of Sections 12-4-A (actions detrimental to stock car racing); 12-4-Q (car, car parts, components and/or equipment used do not conform to NASCAR rules); 20-2.1E (parts or components of the car not previously approved by NASCAR that have been installed or modified to enhance aerodynamic performance will not be permitted); and 20-2H (fenders may not be cut or altered except for wheel or tire clearance which must be approved by the Series Director) of the 2007 NASCAR rule book. The violations were found during the initial inspection process last Friday. As a result, Gordon and Johnson have each been penalized 100 driver championship points. Their respective crew chiefs -- Steve Letarte and Chad Knaus -- have each been fined $100,000, suspended for the next six Nextel Cup Series events until Aug. 15 and placed on probation until Dec. 31, 2007. In addition, Rick Hendrick, owner of the No. 24, has been penalized 100 car owner championship points as has Gordon, who is the owner of the No. 48. |

So what do we think? |

| Re: Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson's Penalities I agree with the penalties on the drivers and Letarte. But I do think Knaus should have been suspended indefinitely. After all the times he has been caught cheating, I think he has proved to Nascar that he don't care about the fine or the suspension for a few weeks. I think they should have at least let him go for the rest of this year. |

Have other CCs been suspended for 6 races this year? I vaguely remember one, but I could be wrong. Maybe it was last year. It's all starting to blend together. |

| Re: Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson's Penalities As far as I can remember Jr's was for 6 weeks and Mikey's indefinitely, and I think thats it. |

Well, overall, I think the penalties for J&J are fair ... if you can use the word "fair" in anything related to NASCAR. Problem is, this isn't going to hurt either one of them. What's to deter them, or other teams, from cheating? ![]()

| Re: Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson's Penalities Q - I saw the rule in another post. It's exactly what I was after, and it is very, very clear. The penalties were not stiff enough. Knaus is an idiot and Letarte is a sheep being led to slaughter. |

| Re: Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson's Penalities I just read on another forum, that this is the 4th time Knaus will be suspended since he became a crew chief in 2001. He has also been busted over 15 times for rules infractions. I dont think its right that he gets he gets the same penalty as LeTarte because of his past record. His should get DOUBLE what LeTarte got. ![]() |

| Re: Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson's Penalities Why break the rules when you're on top? Then again, I think they were trying to fix some of the problems the driver's have been having with these cars. It seems to me they were in a gray area, the car still fit the template, but the powers to be obviously were put off by these teams being so bold as to make an alteration which may have improved the performance of the car.
