Yeah, couldn't agree more. Repeat offenders should definitely receive stiffer punishments. How about a full-year suspension for a third time offense?

Agreed. But if the suspended CC can still communicate with the team, what's the point?

What does NASCAR do to prevent this? Scramble the signal? Then they'll just go to cell phones.

What a mess!

True. Which crew chief was it a couple of years ago that had to be home for some reason, they set him up with a cell phone and computer and he used track pass too. Pretty much called the race sitting in his living room.

Re: Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson's Penalities

you do what you can to make the cheater's life tough, but in the end, the cheater keeps cheating.

take his license away, ban him from all NASCAR races, and he'll still find a way to cheat.

but the way to stop it is to hire him and put him in charge of finding the cheaters!!! the best techmen are ex-cheaters.

You got that right duck. Starting with Gary Nelson when they hired him.

Re: Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson's Penalities

The crew chiefs were fined $100,000!? They must be making a pretty good paycheck to afford that kind of fine! It may be just me, but it seems NASCAR is selective about dolling out their fines. I didn't hear anything about Tony Stewart getting a fine when he rammed Kurt Busch 3 times from behind and then t-boned him. I would have thought that kind of behavior would have brought down the wrath but instead everybody seemed pre-occupied with Kurt rubbing up against Stewarts car in the pit afterwards, which also could have hurt somebody.

they're far from the poverty line .. but the big wallets in the organization (owner, driver) usually give'm bucks under the table. Dale Jr. is the only one I ever heard publicly state he was paying his crew chief's fine.

I think they should have at least let him go for the rest of this year.
You seem to have a better understanding than others that I'll not name, they're not on this forum. There is a difference between Steve and Chad, and their penalties should not be the same, close but not the same. JMHO.

Before I get into trouble with Tony's or Kurt's fans, I'll say I like both of them, they can pilot those cars very well. Tony and Kurt's incident on track was what NASCAR calls 'racin', even thou there has been history between the two. When in boiled over to the pits, Kurt had to be parked for the rest of the race.

I semi agree. LaTarte knew what was being done so he is guilty. Knaus should have additional penalties because he is a repeat offender. LaTarte got what he deserves. Knaus got what he desreves for this infraction. Punishment needs to be progressive and in this case it hasn't happened.

Possible NASCAR is taking the "first COT offense approach" on this. Seems possible as all COT penalties have semblance. Possible. Real test will be "Second COT offense" penalties. NASCAR would be right to make these REAL significant. To be seen.

Multiple thread on this same topic. Someone needs to meld/combine.

It was Knauss last year at Daytona, and the three races after it.

There will always be rivalries on the track. Yes, NASCAR has penalized drivers in the past for "unnecessary roughness", but what Kurt did in the pits was off the charts! Now, I don't like the Busch Boys, but even if Jr. did what Kurt did, I still would have the same opinion. That was SO wrong.
